I saw them both fight and the Rock would pound Tunney into the mat. Marciano was a slow blitkrieg.

Gene Tunney was a great boxer and an all time great. I believe that Rocky Marciano would have to absorb some jabs from the slick boxing Tunney but would slow him down with effective body shots until the 8th round where he catches Tunney on the ropes and bombards him with crunching punches that force the referee to halt the bout,

Both retired as undefeated heavyweight champions. Tunney had one loss as a light heavyweight to Harry Greb. That was Tunney's only loss of his career! Tunney was a great boxer and Marciano a great brawler and power puncher. Tunney was tactician in the ring, a man who circled had a pinpoint jab and an excellent straight right. His style was very reminiscent of Muhammad Ali's.
If you got in close he could tie you up and frustrate you as he did in both fights with Dempsey. Marciano had a great heart and an unquenchable will to win. This would be a very difficult fight to score. Despite Marciano's great punching power I don't see him knocking Tunney out. Tunney would tie up Marciano when he tried his bull rushes, and hit Marciano with jabs and straight rights. Marciano would deliver plenty of punishment to Tunney's body. I see Tunney doing just enough to win a split decision, with both fighter's battered, Tunney suffering damage to the body and Marciano with some cuts and severe swelling to the face. In this fantasy scenario the decision would be close enough the public would demand a rematch.

Both men were great fighters in their time .Marciano went undefeated in his entire career and Tunney lost only once in his. This is a typical boxer against puncher. I see Tunney winning this one after a gruelling 15 round split decision with both men badly bruised. Tunney winning this one bcause of his boxing speed.

A past his prime Dempsey knocked Tunney down. I think Rocky would have knocked him out around the same time, between the 7th & 9th rounds.

Rocky, hands down.

He fought like a bull. His right carried a knockout punch with no more than a 6-8 inch thrust.
Rocky died in a plane crash.
