As I recall Lot wasn't exactly a good guy either, didn't he offer his virgin daughters to the crowd. This would tell us that the event wasn't sexual, and was about power, thereby making it an act of rape.

If it was for Debauchery, and Lot offered his daughters, wasn't he contributing?

The evil of the cities of the plain was abhorrent in the sight of God and when their evil was complete He destroyed them. Was it all sexual, No. It was murder, rape, robbery, cheating , lying, and the denial of God. It was all manor of Evil. Sexual sin as bad as it is is not the only sin in the world.... Jim

In the story, the city of Sodom was not destroyed for homosexuality or the desire to rape angels. The reason the angels were there in the first place is because the city was already doomed for destruction. The angels were there to warn Lot and his family to get out.
The book of Genesis... where this story is told it never mentions specific abominations. Perhaps their main food source was shrimp. We do know god hates shrimp. Perhaps they ate bacon for breakfast every morning. Who knows? It never says more than "exceedingly wicked."
The book of Ezekiel clearly states that it was for lack of charity. Ezekiel was a prophet of the Lord and I would think he would have the "inside" word on why God did what he did there.
Every time Sodom is mentioned, post Genesis story, it is in reference to "lacking charity," not sexual immorality.
The part of this story that fascinates me, however, is the part that occurs directly after the city of Sodom is destroyed. Lot and his daughters make a camp inside a cave and his daughters get Lot drunk and commit incest with him to have children.
God destroyed two entire cities because there wasn't any good among them and their wickedness had become a foul stench to God... but he didn't notice the incest in the future of the "righteous" ones that he spared from the destruction. He killed the children of Sodom who were innocent, but spared two women who would seduce their own father to bare children. What was up with that?

Sodom was destroyed because of their sin that range from Homosexual to murder. They where so sinful that GOD did not fine just 10 people who were good in 10000's people.

People love to use the example of Sodom and Gomorrah as a reason to condemn gays, but I was reading it the other day in that light and it is pure assumption....I definitely agree, it was more the power issue.

Lot didn't live a sinful lifestyle like everybody else. Lot wasn't perfect, but he wasn't continually and deliberately sinful like all the other people.
