I am constantly drinking water and I have heard that it is not goo to drink water with meals because it dilutes the enzymes in your stomach. Is the effect so bad that you shouldnt drink water with a meal? What are some problems that can arise from this?

This is nonsense. Where DO you morons get these idiotic ideas??

IT DOESN'T MATTER!! If you're thirsty during your meal, go ahead and drink! Your stomach will simply secrete more acid and enzymes, if that's necessary. There will NOT be any "problems". Sheesh!

For better digestion, see site below. Actually, it is not diluting enzymes but dilutes stomach acids making them weaker. The strength of an acid is based on how much water is in it. For example the hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, you buy is 3% H2O2 and 97% water. If it were 97% H2O2, it would be rocket fuel.

See benefits yourself. Before meal, drink all the water you want. Drown yourself in it so you have enough. Then don't drink until an hour after meal and SEE HOW YOU FEEL, YOURSELF. You are not doing it for anyone else but you.

It sounds like you consume too much anti-water-- see below site. Site also explains fruits, some are which 98% water-- don't need digestion???????????

The act of chewing mixes the saliva into the food that you are eating. This is the first stage in digesting food. If you drink anything while eating you are washing the saliva out of your mouth. If you take water, or any other liquid, into your mouth while chewing you will dilute the saliva and slow down the digestion. The best approach, in my opinion, is to leave the drinking until you have finished the solid food. I very rarely have indigestion and when I do I find that chewing an extra-strong mint usually fixes it.
How is your digestion?
As for what people drank in the past, that is irrelevant since the question is 'drinking while eating'.

I think the advice you have been given is crazy. You will not be "diluting your enzymes."

Drinking water with meals makes you feel fuller and will help you resist the urge to overeat. Other than that, there are no effects.

What do you think people drank with meals -throughout history- before milk was widely available and other drinks came along?

The enzymes remain in the stomach acid in your stomach. When you drink alot during meals the solution becomes less concentrated meaning less collisions between food molecules and the enzyme molecules occur. This causes digestion to take longer but i imagine this added length of time is negligable. It is a good idea to drink half hour either side of eating as this prevents over eating and optimal hydration.

Not only drinking water with meals will dilute the acids in your stomach, but also drinking right before or after meals will upset your stomach, you are absolutely right. I was told not to drink water in meals when I began to Iearn how to eat on my own !!!!!

Diluting doesn't matter.
Foodstuffs in = foodstuffs out in your body. There's nowhere else it can go.

All the cells in your body need water to survive, it's a really good thing. Just keep track on how MUCH water you consume - 2L is the daily minimum. Don't go all out (too much water can drown your internal organs; this occurs somewhere around 8-10L daily, depending on body composition)

You are just right. Yes, it dilutes the enzymes in your stomach and it is much better to drink water before the meal, especially if you are planning to loose weight. If you want to get rid of your habit, just imagine a table full of very delicious meals, and suddenly somebody shower it with water. Pooh!

well, according to what i know, it's bad to drink water while eating. it can result in a bad digestion and also in some cases to diarrhea... it is recommended to drink water like 30 minutes before you eat, and one glass of water when you're done eating. you can drink lemon juice mixed with water if you want an extra fast digestion...

If you don't drink while eating, you will have to chew longer to be able to swallow. This helps your food digest more easily, and you will feel full faster.
