I too, experience this tragic disease. I also have a lung disease so I get it double. BUT, the anxiety attacks are WORSE than my breathing from anxiety....Everyone that has answered this in detail is true. We all suffer a bit differently and some attacks are much worse than others. All of my severe attacks come in the middle of the night. I can't even talk about how bad they are.
It is bad, because you really don't know if you are dying or if you are a crazy person, or sometimes both.....I still cannot believe you can bring something like this on yourself. I am on medication or I could not exist. Every med out there works different on every person and how it affects anxiety attacks.
Get help and read as much as you can on the subject. That helps you too. Just knowing it isn't JUST you that suffers helps.
Peace Be With You.................

I googled for an answer and came up with the following link http://www.anxietypanic.com/signs.html ,
Personally, I was diagnosed with severe anxiety due to post operative stress and drug reactions, but my major symptom was insomia and extreme paranoia. I actually could come up with a conspiracy theory as to why the neighbors cat was defecating in my yard. After reading the signs and symptoms offered at this link I am wondering if my problems are not of a different nature.
I have like these epiphanies that everything that is going wrong is linked or that people meant something other than what they said. Then I get anxious and nervous, and feel like there's going to be some impending disaster. If I do not wake someone up to check on reality, I work myself into a shaking, crying mess. If the internet is on, I change all my passwords and delete more than I should. I can totally recall the most horrible moments of my life and know they all could occur again at any moment. It is best if I do not actually interact with anyone until I have calmed down, as my impulse is to cut and run.
Most of the meds I have been given either cause me to go on crying jags for days on end or leave me sleepy all the time with high triglyceride levels.
I do not think this is your typical anxiety though. I do have the heart palpitations/racing heart, increased heartbeat, sweating, hot flashes, and feelings of dread.
It only occurs now when I am under stress for a prolonged time.
I had test anxiety in college though.

I can't breathe, Your chest will be all tight, You'll keep coughing, you'll be shaking, you're adrenaline will be on a rise, if someone gave you a weapon you would probably kill any living thing in site, and you tend to freak, cry and say things you don't mean.. The world will be spinning, but you wont really be "dizzy", you may feel like you gotta go potty..... and you'll probably be really mad too... possibly... and hot... u may be hotter then heck... :) other tiems your chest will just hurt, you'll have a hard time breathing, and you'll be shaking, hot but yet have chills, and feel totally freaked out, but when you learn to recognize it *( which you will )* just start breathing, and take long slooooooooow breaths

your heart races myou sweat and shake, you get pins and needles in your head and up the side of your face ,you cant breath ,you think you are going to faint ,and you feel everyone is looking at you and can see your illness ,you will want to get away from what ever is making you feel ill ,this is called the fight or flight ,you either stay and fight it ,or you run away ,and believe me you will run awway as its so hard to stay and fight it ,you will want the loo as you will feel as if you are going to poo youe self ,and the feeling is so strong that if you were in a plane and had one you would rather jump out of the plane other than stay and fight it ,.but also when having a pannic ,youe hearing becomes 100 times sharper as do you eye sight and every sence in your body you will be able to hear everyone around you breathing ,hear their cloths move etc ,things you would never normally notice ,a panic as i call them ,it normal believe it or not even thoough you will feel more frightened than you ever could imagine, its a defence mechinisum from cave man times as we used to have to get away fast before something attached us a ate us for its dinner so we had to run and run very fast and as we ran we would release urine and deficate on the way to make us lighter so we coould run faster .but the problem with panic today is we are not exspected to behave this way anymore ,and when you are in a situation where you panic ,you are affraid to go there again as you worry that the samr thing will happen again ,and because you start to worry it does happen again.
this is a nasty ill ness to have ,medication can take the edge off but it will not cure you ,only you can do that .you will have to fight back at it ,if you have a panic, dont run compleatly awaymjust move to another area ,always now a way out ,and alwas now where the toilets are this will help a little ,in the early dadys never go anywhere that you know will cause you to panic alone ,always take someone with you ,then gradually as time go by try it alone ,but if you feel bad ,dont get abgry with your self as this is a illness and it will take a long time to mend ,if ever ,but you can still have a life ,just now wgere everything is before you go and take any medication ,do not drink alcahol as this seems to make it worse not better .educate your self get books from the libary and study them as understanding a bit of what is happening to you is part way to not fearing yourself and the first step to recovery .
i hope this has helped you ,and yes you have probablt quessed i suffer them have done for 5 years now ,and if i have helped you just a little then my illness has come to me for a reason and im pleased to help .infact after this is over and im better i think i will help sufferers like myself ,nthing would give me more pleasure as this is a petrifying illness ,and unless you have ever suffered it you cant even begine to imagin such fear, can you imagine jumping out of a plane with no parrishoot ,well if i had a panic id be more affraid of you standing beside me than i ever would to jump and it would be a reliefe, all the best kat.

Like you are dying is the easiest way to describe it. For me it's chest pains, trouble breathing, sense of doom--feels like I'm about to die.
