Puss is not normal. It's a sign of an infection.

If you have a family doctor, go see him, and he can give you something to make sure it doesn't get any worse. If you can't afford that, clean the wound several times a day with alcohol and squeeze out as much puss as you can. DO NOT use peroxide on an open wound.

ive had mine for 15 years and it still sometimes has a discharge. If its red and very sore and the puss is a greenish colour, then its infected. Have it look at or get some bactine and use it 3 times a day. It takes a long time to be completely healed so be sure to keep it clean all the time and if it gets infected bactine it, but if it doesnt get better after a couple days get in to a doc you may need something stronger to get rid of the infection.

Hon, Puss from anything is not normal. You should have it looked at. Puss indicates infections and sometimes you will need more than over the counter treatments to clear it up. Check with the doctor to be on the safe side. It's common to get an infection at a pericing site, espically where things rub up against it. So please be safe and see the doctor before it becomes more serious that it already is. This is the voice of experience.

Okay, don't be alarmed- I mean, these people are saying it's not normal and they're making a big thing of it, but it's really not so bad. So you've got a bit of an infection, big deal. I see some people saying to use alcohol to clean it, that's cool, when the same happened with me- well, not a navel piercing actually, aah, anyway- it was distressing, and it felt bad at the time, but it goes away. Yes, I used Savlon wound wash, but water with salt in it is supposed to be good as well. I never needed to go to the doctor or anything, it just healed by itself, all I got was pus, and it was never very painful, just a little tender... nothing major, just make sure it's clean for a while, it'll heal up soon ;) Well, soonish...

I take it all these people that thinks some infection is normal, experienced the same problem also. Pus is your body fighting an infection. Some things you can get from a body piercing:

Complications of body piercing include local and systemic infections, poor cosmesis, and foreign body rejection. Swelling and tooth fracture are common problems after tongue piercing. Minor infections, allergic contact dermatitis, keloid formation, and traumatic tearing may occur after piercing of the earlobe. "High" ear piercing through the ear cartilage is associated with more serious infections and disfigurement. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics are advised for treatment of auricular perichondritis because of their antipseudomonal activity. Many complications from piercing are body-site-specific or related to the piercing technique used. Navel, nipple, and genital piercings often have prolonged healing times. Family physicians should be prepared to address complications of body piercing and provide accurate information to patients. (Am Fam Physician 2005;72:2029-34, 2035-6. YOU HAVE AN INFECTION! Go see a doctor immediately. It is normal to have some clear/yellowish drainage in the first few days after piercing - NOT 3 weeks later. Infections in this area can be very serious. Do not delay in seeing a doctor. Pus from a 3-week-old abdominal piercing is not normal.

Does it itch, burn, or is it swelling? It could be an infection if so, but some amount if puss and itching is to be expected. Just keep it clean. You may even want to clean it a few more times than they tell you too. If they tell you to clean it 3 x a day clean it 4-5 times a day. I had to let my ear ring holes close up, because mine kept getting infected. Every time I tired to wear something other than real gold or Silver, I would have problems. I can not afford real gold or silver, so I gave up on it. Check to see if you may have the same problem, as many people can only wear real gold or silver in the beginning. Good Luck!!

you have infection in the wound. the area around your naval will red and warm, and to me pus means there is an infection. you need to go to your GP and get some antibiotics to clear it. to help the process remove item in your navel, first boil some water, add a little salt, use gauze swabs wash you hands well. this is what to do once the water has boiled and cooled add the salt is in, wash your hands and remove the item from your navel, now place a gauze swab into the salt water and gently clean the area yes it will sting, discard the swab and repeat, now place some antiseptic cream on one of the swabs and cover the navel repeat this precess daily with the antibiotics off your GP it should l heal up OK.
hope it clears up soon

Well, make sure you bathe it properly and keep it covered till the irritation has gone down. I had loads of problem with my navel piercing and it probs took about 6 months to heal, but I had a nipple piercing and had no problem with that at all. Get some tea tree oil to go on it as well, its a great antiseptic that really helps the ring movement.

If you are concerned, go back to the place that you had it done and ask them to check it over. If they are professional then they should do this no problem and free.

It seems to happen to a lot of people but its not normal. make sure you clean it a few times a day. I eventually had to keep mine out because I was changing it one day and it was so filled with puss that i couldn't even get the new ring in. that was years ago and i still have a scar. the navel piercing is one of the worst ones when it comes to taking care of it.

I doubt that the piercing should cause the inflammation lasting 3 weeks without site being infected. If you tried to clean it with the disinfectant like alcohol, peroxide and symptoms do not disappear go and see doctor or nurse.
