Go to after prom sales or try different styled dresses of the same color. Usually if your pretty flexible you can get a great deal at one of the local bridal shops.

Go where you got your bridal dress. A lot of the time the bridesmaids will get a cut rate.
My best friend is getting married in October, and went to this cute bridal botique and got her dress for $400. Then we found bridesmaids dresses there (that had a tag price of $125) but they gave each of us a 20% discount since the bride got her dress there. My point being, you can get quality for a good price, you just have to make an effort to look. Try a local bridal store (other than DB).
Have the maid of honor (and any other "oddly sized", big, tall, or short bridesmaids, come along to try on). I cannot stress this enough. You won't know how a dress looks until someone trys it on. (Also note, if any "oddly sized" bridesmaids cannot come to try on, make sure that you buy a dress that can come with extra length, in plus sizes, or both, depending on your situation. In our case all the girls are "bigger" and one is also six foot tall, so we had to really hunt for a dress that came in plus and extra lenght.)
Also, make sure that you pick a flattering color for all the women: neutrals are good.
Also note, I am sure someone has/or will suggest David's Bridal. I have made it my mission to keep brides/bridal parties away from there. The dresses look cheap (and you can get much better quality for a comprobale price at a local store), and I have found the staff to be dismissive, and at points in time, almost rude. I strongly suggest you avoid what I have nicknamed, "Bridal Hell". The store is what you would think would have happened if Wal-Mart made a chain of bridal/formalwear stores (cheap, and not helpful).

Best wishes, and good luck with finding just the right dress, it can be done...we did for my daughter's wedding in May. Took some work because the girls went from a size 6 to 26. We ended up at David's Bridal.
But here are a few sites that you can try:
cybernetplaza.com
JCPENNYS.com
Chadwicks.com
Roamans.com
I did a search on the web...I put in cheap bridesmaid dresses, and honey, they are sites that will keep you busy for awhile. In the end, because of a time factor, we ended up at David's Bridal.
We bought the shoes at Walmart. Jewerly was from Claire's.
Whole bridesmaid outfit came out to be $120.00. And the girls were beautiful! The wedding was in May, and the dresses were preety enough that 2 of them have woren theirs again for other events.
If you order the dresses from a website, please make sure who measures the girls knows what they are doing. Because formals run different than regular sizes you buy off the rack.
Wishing the happiest of wedding days!
God bless us all......

I know David's Bridal seems to be getting a lot of crap, but I think David's Bridal is great. I happen to be very tall and Davids Bridal was a god-send when my best friend got married. She was able to find a dress for all of us in her bridal party and it fit us all (I was very tall, but most where shorter than average). AND to top it all off, I got my shoes there and they sold size 11 shoes right out of the store. That may not seem like a big deal to you all, but the chances of finding size 11 shoes IN A STORE and on the shelf is MAYBE 2%. Since I was so grateful to get a dress that was long enough off the rack that it didn't have to be lengthened AND finding shoes right off the shelf, when I get married it will be the first place I go for bride's maid dresses. They also had good prices that I saw.

Check out alfredangelo.com. These dresses go to sizes up to 28W, and they give you a price chart so you know where you stand. A lot of the dresses come in styles that are flattering on any shape, and many of them run under $150. They also have a great color selection! Good luck!

I am trying to do the same thing. My best bet so far has been looking for seperates at bridal shops. I let my bridesmaids pick the top and skirt they felt best fit their body, but all in the same color and length. It seems to be keeping everyone happy, and I believe the most expensive one ended up being about $140. They don't look bad standing together since the skirts are all the same length. You can try david's bridal online, and try matching some tops and skirts online before you go out and shop.
Congrats on your engagement and best of luck dress shopping!

I work at a David's Bridal. Their dresses are all around $120 and come in all different styles. The best style for all figures is an A-line skirt. It is flattering on anyone. Also, dresses with a side rouch are quite flattering as well. Just no sheath dresses or thin materials like silk.

Why don't you try a simple black skirt and buy shirts/blouses in the same style with the wedding colors.
That would be a huge cost savings and the ladies would be more likely to wear the outfit again.
Side note: I purchased my matron-of-honor and two bridesmaids dresses at a department store. The dresses were simple, but elegant. I spent $17.00 on each dress. (I'm not sure where you are located, but I purchased the dresses at Value City.)

David's Bridal.... they have a variety of colors and styles. That way if your girls want to find a style that's flattering to their figure, they could pick their own dress and keep the same color. David's Bridal also has some sale dresses as well. When is the wedding and what sizes are you looking for? Maybe my bridesmaids will be willing to "pass" them on. :)

Davids bridal!!
It's great- they can pick whatever top or bottom they want in the color you want! I am having pink tops and brown skirts... they range in price to $100-150 depending on how fancy they want.
And the best part is- it's easy to control because you can go on the internet and OK the dress.... so you don't have to go to the dress shop 6 times!
Plus they are really nice and give you lots of free samples and will give you swatches of the dress for your colors and ect...
