I am trying to trace my family tree and I can get no further than 1260 with the birth of a Sir Anthony de Tipton supposedly knighted on dec 11 1282. I am unsure if this is accurate as I can find no true evidence. I would like to be able to substantiate these claims and find out my family's origins before England.

His father was Anthony Tipton of West Moreland, Staffordshire, England born 1220. Found no mother named.

But the story of whether Tipton was the man who actually killed Prince Llywelyn ap Gruffydd is very much in dispute

Suggest you contact the township of West Moreland, Staffordshire, England for additional records

Good Luck

It not substantiated that Anthony Tipton was the man who killed Prince Llewelyn. It is a fact that historians of the days of Llewelyn's death named Stephen de Francton as the slayer and that is what is on the monument to Prince Llewelyn in Wales. The only place I have ever, ever seen Anthony Tipton named as the slayer of Llewelyn is in Tipton family lore. Factually, King Edward could not have knighted Anthony Tipton on the battlefield the day after the battle because Edward was not at the battle or at the site on the day following the battle.
