God WAS one of us! He went through human suffering like us, to show us the way. And I don't believe that one wrong move sends you to Hell. Just the opposite. You can be a total screw-up and he still loves you. He ate and talked and hung out with sinners, and befriended people that no one else wanted to be around! He despised the righteous hypocrites of his day (the Pharisees and Saducees). Read the New Testament for testimony of a loving God, not a scary God.

He did manifest Himself in human form in the birth of Jesus Christ. God does not sell people out. These are just part of faith. If you have it you believe in God and if you don't have it you don't believe in God. Life really is simple. Don't let others make it difficult for you. My favorite saying is "Know when to hold on, know when to let go." Follow that advice and life becomes pretty easy and wonderful no matter what your belief are.

He could still be.
St. Christopher carried Christ across a cold and troubling river back in the 3rd or 4th Century.
There are websites operated by the anti-christ which claim that certain events are controlled by the "Master Jesus." These sites are bunk.

Your question shows a deep lack of understanding about who God reveals Himself to be in the Bible. Jesus said, "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30, NIV)

The common misconception about god it that we cannot see him.
He is an invisable Flying Spagetti Monster.
If he was hanging out with us on the bus I think we'd notice all the extra Ramen noodles on the floor!

Not everyone is afraid... I'm more afraid of being blown up by some religious fanatic because THEY really exist.

God came as one of us, just a stranger on a bus. His name was Jesus and yes he had compassion on us, but it doesn't give us exemption from obeying Him.
