I haven't been feeling the love from "god" lately, in fact I never have. Some of you who answered are agnostics or atheists. I read your answers. So, my question is, other than sarcasm, what would make you answer that question with "Love" as the answer to how "god" works? Are you high? If so, can I have some too?

How idealistic and sweet. I can't see the possibility of a kind loving god who allows such bad things to exist, unless he has no power. Which would negate his diety.

The Bible I read has a God who throws fireballs at Earth when he is mad.

The god I want to believe in is just love.

I have no empirical evidence that this god exists, just know I want it to.

"Love" is such a non-answer. Love is an emotion. Instead of sitting around feeling "love" for everybody, try going out and doing something productive.

You don't have to feel attraction for someone in order to treat that person decently and with respect.

God doesn't work. People do.

That "high" I hadn't really ever experienced either until I got into a non denominational church... there I just listened to sermons.. not really participating.. the excitement grew as the message made more and more sense... and now a lot of times I am very "into" (high) after a great message... It takes time, is not easy, but it is worth it.

As far as love.. I think when you become open to the message (sermons) and really apply some of the teachings to your life that love opens up to you and you feel a lot better.

Hang in there :)
Hugs

Don't be too harsh on the god folk... they have limited verbal resources and many have limited intellectual resources as well. That's what happens when they put everything they know, everything they believe, every little tiny bit of faith they have in one book.

The rest of us have read many religious texts and have decided, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we're pretty sure there is not god. Not positive, but pretty sure. Our moral compass is centered on humanity... we have to rely on each other, cooperation, and assisting our fellow man to live a moral life. All they have to do is "have faith." And then they have the audacity to say we have it easy just not believing.

I am wondering if that was my question, I have to say there were some interesting answers. Some valid, others not so much. It always amazes me the lengths one has to go to defend God.

But answers that are kind and well thought out sure beat the U R Hot, or U R fine answers on any given day!

I have three children, A 7 year old girl and two boy's, 6 years old and 5 month's old. I don't think I could give their lives for any or even all of you.

God gave his only Son, a perfect Son who never sinned and was equal to God (was God) in every way, for you. His death can save your life, your eternal life just call on his name.

I would say that's love.

But hey; society says you have to work for everything, how can you get salvation for free, it's not free it was just paid for by the life of Gods Son. But hey, he gave you free will, but wait that's a sign of love also. You get to chose for yourself.

Again, I would say that's real love.

Love is supposedly truth and it seems true enough that some humans can't even be kind to those who they can see, but yet spend a good deal of time boasting about loving an entity that they can't see.....That is jacked up.

Love is supposed to be how the idea of God works. Many people who turn to religion are lost people, like prisoners, homeless, drug abusers, etc. An idea of a God offers them hope, condolence, open arms and love. God's just an invisible security blanket for some people. It's just that others don't see it or feel they need it, like ourselves. :)

I have never brought down the idea of God on this site, just the people who feel the need to press it on me by saying my soul will go to hell if I don't accept their religon. The individual idea is a good one, it's when you organize it and threaten others to eternal damnation if they don't accept your groups idea of God is when it turns bad.

What would make me believe in a God and believe that he worked through love?

Have a calendar year pass in which no-body under the age of 10 dies: that might do it.

Love is an attitude of value towards life. So they say it defines God. Love is an attitude.
