My mum had two blood tests of liver function several weeks ago.
Her Dr. said she need to see a liver specialist and a blood specialist because her Bilirubin is "too high".
----------------------------------------------
Test 1 / Test 2

Total Bilirubin: 1.9 / 2.2
Indirect Bilirubin: 0.2 (test 2)
SGOT(AST) : 24 / 20
SGPT(ALT): 20 / 16
ALP 45 / 44
WBC: 6.6 / 5.4
Hemoglobin: 14.2 / 14.5
Hematocrit: 41.3 / 42.1
Platelets: 66 / 72
GGT: 13(test 2)
---------------------------------------------------
How do I understand these results from Test 1 and test 2?
Is this means that she has liver problem and blood problem??
Anybody have any suggesttions for me?

Thank you very much!

the tests show mild direct hyperbilirubinemia ( i.e surgical jaundice) and thrombocytopenia (low platelets)
more tests are advisable: PT, APTT and ultrasound of abdomen to assess liver, biliary system and spleen

Do not worry at all!!! I have a very serious liver problems. The diagnose is too difficult even to spell, than to understand, but the main point is my liver is NOT working properly. The first time i went in a hospital parts of my results were:
AST- 954,ALT- 588!!! Total bilirubin-over 18! Usually the little higher like ur moms can be from losing weight recently, medications and some other stuff u would never thought are able to affect liver tests. If it's a liver failure or even the lightest hepatitis the results would be times higher. My opinion is that it is nothing serious, just change of food she was eating to a greasier one or even stress. Don't panic! Advise to see a specialist just for your own relief.

On the right side of the lab results page, there is a colum for normal ranges! Type them too if not we do not know for sure the normal ranges as each lab has different scales. In general if Bilirubin is high; you Mom may have liver problem or biliary tract problem. That can be confirmed with levels of AST and ALT. So type out the normal ranges!!

Based on the new info you provided; it appears that only her direct bilirubin is high!! But her liver enzymes are withinh normal ranges (so her liver is ok). If may be that she has some internal hemolysis (break down of RBC's) or the test may not be accurate since Bilirubin BREAKS DOWN easily under the light. But to be save have her see an Internist. Best wishes!!

ast and alt are two liver enzymes that can also indicate liver problems. both of these levels seem to be within the norm.

however, take her doctor's advice and go see the specialist.
