I want a piercing in my lip... i'm about turning 15, but my father says that piercings are something against human race and nature and blah blah blah, and my mother agrees with whatever he says. What should I tell them to convince them?

You most likely can't convince them. I would find away to do it but you'll get in trouble. If you don't mind them being mad at you for a week or two, go for it. I think they make some stick on ones that look real maybe you could wear those and then they know they are not real and they get used to seeing it. Then after a while get a real one and don't tell them it is real. They will probably figure it out anyway but I think that would be less shocking to your parents but you will still most likely get in trouble.

Your under 18 so ultimatly it's their choice, what you can do is search for information about body piercings-history, how to find a GOOD studio to get it done, proper-PROPER- aftercare etc. show them you have really thought about it, and your trying to do things safely and be mature about it. If you loose interest years down the road then you take it out, you'll have a spot but who doesn't have atleast 1 little white spot from a pimple or some such on their face. Also if they refer to you getting a job, most employers will allow you to wear a clear plastic retainer during your work, and some dont really care about it at all (usually mall jobs, hottopic, claires, etc) Just try to show them you want to be mature and that you will most likely get it done when your 18 but want them to be supportive and understand why.

it's gonna be hard. also because most clean places need parental permission for those under 18. i totally DISAGREE with the guy above me, do not just get it done and show it to them. that's the worst thing you can do!! plus if you do that, youll have to go to a skeevy place and thats never smart. i did that for two tattoos that i got when i was under 18 and i regret going there for it.

i guess all you can say is that you are really responsible, youll take care of it, bla bla bla. but if your dad thinks it is against nature i dont know how much luck youll have

my suggestion would be to say this: mom and dad, how about we strike a compromise. if i still want this piercing in lets say 3 months, then i can get it. but if i grow out of wanting it, so be it.

You shouldn't get your lip pierced because wen u grow out of that phase you will be left with a scar that looks like a spot! get something that u can hide like your bellybutton.. i have my bellybutton pierced and its great. im just about to turn 16 and i got my bellybutton pierced when i was 11, i'm not too sure what your parents mean about piercing being against the human race but anyway.. if u really want your lip pierced then wait until you are 16 and then do what you like they can't stop you! I know this may sound horrible but thankfully my parents let me get mine done.. my mam actaully asked me to get my bellybutton pierced! Or if u wanted to know what they would do if you actaully did get it done by a little gem or something and stick it onto your lip and go in the house and see what they do.

Piercing in your lip? I have to agree with your dad in not wanting you to get one, but not his reasons why. I see piercings like that, along with tats all over your body, not a form of self expression but a form of disrepect for yourself. (I do have 2 tats but they are hidden unless I want someone to see them) Do you plan on getting a job when you trun 16? How many employers will hire you if you don't look respectful?

Have your parents let you get your ears pierced? Also, you may be able to convince him if you can find pix of people with lip piercings with very small studs.

Wait until you're 18 and see if you still want it. I know a lot of people who regret their piercings and tattoos now that they are in their 30's.

Just think of what kind of place is going to hire someone who has a lip ring.

You can't just live in the know...gotta think about the future too.

Sweetie please don't do this to that beautiful face or body. Pierced ears are one thing, but you risk infections, you aren't treated as an adult by others, people will stare at you, it will probably hurt to have it done to begin with... reconsider. A rash moment now, may cost you something in the future that you wouldn't have otherwise given up if you had the choice.

Tell them that you are just stupid, that if you want to go around looking like a freak, then they ought to let you. Tell them that you really don't care how ungodly this looks to a lot of people. Tell them that you really don't need the respect of your elders or the teachers in your school. Mention that you probably never will need a job so it really doesn't matter how you look. Oh, and don't forget to tell them you you have the money to get it done, and don't need help from them.

Remind them that they were teenagers... tell your 'Dad' that alot of tribes all over the world use peircings and tattoes as social status etc.. crack open a National Geographic and you'll see.
Just reasure them that you won't turn into a crack-hoe just because you are getting a peircing. You merely want to make a statement.

Instead of trying to convince them why don't you try and realize that they just might know a little more than a 14yr old kid? There is a reason kids can't do this without at your age. Stop thinking about what you want and try and think about whats best for you....first step in growing up a little.
