I haven't been sleeping well since starting to take Atenolol. I thought that it would be best taken in the morning since the effects would have started to wear off, but then I heard that the "wearing off" part is what causes sleep disturbances. Either way, I doubt I'll be sleeping as well as if I wasn't taking it at all, but does anyone who takes it have any advice on getting more rest?!

Atenolol is a beta blocker and is used for hypertension (raised blood pressure).

They act by inhibiting the sympathetic system and reduce the blood pressure. It can reduce the pulse as well.

Because it reduces the pulse and blood pressure can cause sometimes very low BP. Hence, they are better taken in the mornings.

They also cause pronounced tiredness as a side effect but body overcomes it as the time passes.

I took it as a part of a Blood Pressure regimen but I always took mine in the morning. But in my case, I either get very little sleep or sleep like a log, depending on what I am doing at the time. But I do not suffer from this either way. Maybe you need to experiment with different timings like late afternoon or mid-morning to see what balances best for you. Good luck!

I find that taking it just before bedtime works best for me. By the time the "disturbing" dreams start, it's time for me to get up anyway.
