To exercise power is to potentially abuse it. Power corrupts. Even God would be corrupted, though there would be no greater power to hold him accountable other than his own karma.
A wise God would choose to be a source of knowledge and wisdom, but would not proactively exercise raw power to influence events. That's not to say, if we take the OT at face value, that wasn't the case in the past. But one could argue that God returning in the form of Jesus was to mainly to redeem himself, to atone for the wanton use of raw power and the violations of his own commandments in the OT.
Humans have been given plenty of power. Having the wisdom to know when and especially WHEN NOT to use power is the bigger issue here.
