I was driving down the street. Going with the flow of traffic (which is always 5 to 10 miles over the speed limit). A police car parked on the same side of the street flashes his lights. I stop a good 50 feet from him. He motions me to pull over and mentions that he caught me speeding on his "rear radar." He was looking forward the whole time so I know it wasn't a radar gun. Is rear radar real or BS? What should I do? I don't feel I deserve it.

My hubby a police officer and he has a rear radar in his car! so yes there is such a thing! The radar is in the front too but there's a thing also in the fron that reads the speed of cars wether it was from the front radar gun or the back, so that explains why he looked at the front of his car when he checked the speed! I would just pay the ticket and be done with it! It happend to me before too..lol
yeah i am a officers wife and I still got a ticket...lol... so not all get away with speeding..lol
good luck!!

Yes, police cars can radar ( with built in equpment) from the rear of the car and from the front of the car ( but not the side)

They can radar if they are moving or sitting still

They can also radar cars comming toward them or cars moving in thier same direction.

( they have built in computers in the radar equipment that figures all of that depending on the setting.

And of course some departmens still use a real radar "gun" which is portable and can be pointed in any direction they want.

Alot of officers radar to the rear, they let you get past and watch you speed up as soon as you pass them.

Actually the what he meant was that he clocked you from the rear antenna. That is the proper term for the device that shoots out the beam. It measures the distance and the speed that the beam comes back and gives you the speed reading. The radar is set up under the dopler system and reads in wavelengths. The radar is pretty accurrate and it is designed for the violater. By that l mean what the officer reads on his screen is really a slower speed than what you were actually doing.

You state:

"I was driving down the street. Going with the flow of traffic (which is always 5 to 10 miles over the speed limit)".

You just admitted your guilt. You were caught red-handed. You deserve the ticket. You should pay it. It doesn't matter that the rest of the traffic was also speeding. You were caught at it. Pay the ticket, learn from it, move on.

Police do have a seperate transducer that can be located in the rear window or "rear radar" as he put it. Your case can be easily contested if you were in the flow of traffic because he may or may not have been targeting you at the time he registered the speed. In our system he must prove that you were the one in violation of the law.

Many police cars have rear radar heads. When running stationary radar vehicles approaching from either direction can be timed. When driving down the road the police officer can time vehicles in front of him travelling the same direction, approaching him in the opposite lane, going away from him in the opposite lane, or coming up behind him. In other words, they can time vehicles coming in any direction.

Why do peolple think the police always make things up? Yes, they have rear radar. You're guilty. You already said that. Be an adult. Pay the ticket and quit speeding.

It's a radar they stick on their rear window. They get the numbers on a screen on the dashboard. They have to park the same way the trafic is going. It is very possible.

rear radar is the same as the radar from the front of the car.

Rear radar simply means he has one in his rear window. It's read out is still in front of him on the dash. What difference does it make where he mounted it? As they say in Georgia, "u ina heap o trouble boy" I always liked that commercial. Sorry son, save up some money.
