at least register and share in the responsibility of the society they are living in by paying taxes and giving back to the community. I have no problem with illegals being here if they are pursuing a citizenship or either here on a temporary work visa BUT they should be required to register, have a criminal background check done and pay taxes they should not be allowed to not pay taxes, have access to free healthcare, education, state financial aid, be able to have a home and or car loan, carry no car insurance and every other privilege we as U.S. citizens pay for by way of taxes. many on here keep up the ridiculous notion that we ourselves as americans are immigrants and that is correct but that is not the issue here, the issue is should almost 11 million people (illegals), only less than 100, 00 of which are registered and pay taxes be allowed to require that millions of legal citizens support them?

grdnovis- everything you pointed out is false...they can pursue citizenship while they are here. in fact here in atlanta they can go to the ins office and the ppl there will actually walk them through the process ! i know this for a fact. if you go to our government immigration site you will see that they go above and beyond to help illegals gain citizenship and all without penality. for goodness sakes at least educate yourself on an issue that affects your life negatively. its just not fair that i like so many others go to work every morning at 4 get home at 6 and my children sit in a school room doing busy work while illegals children(this is fact via the teachers) are getting personal one on one help. and that when i have to go the hospital i have to pay, while illegals give false names and walk out. i also have a friend that was in a car accident, an illegal was drunk t-boned him, he's paralyzed from the waist down..the illegal fled to MX, no insurance...is THAT FAIR !

twyonne, you have no idea what you are talking about they will not deport anyone especially those with families...as i said above ins is more than willing to work with these people. my personal experience is that one of my children married an illegal (yes, you can do that) &the person they married gets paid better than i do for doing basically the same job, they don't pay taxes, i do & the really weird thing is we have offered multiple times to pay for & sponsor him getting his citizenship. they have already gotten the paperwork but will not file it why, cause they don't want to pay taxes. so before you start saying you know what you're talking about i know because i live it! the problem is this guy is very nice but he has said in MX the general feeling is the americans have so much & its free, he had no idea we paid for taxes, healthcare etc. he knows now but it still doesn't matter, he wants to make the money here, tax free so he can go back to MX a rich man..at our expense.

they r not sharing the responsibility, they are breaking the law. The law is in place to keep foreigners from doing exactly what the Mexicans r doing, invading the country in masses. which actually has the effect of distorting our whole country, at the very least we will have a country with in a country. This is damaging and will destroy the country as it is doing at this very moment. Mexicans have 4, 5 and more kids live in a one bedroom house and do not pay the taxes you'd pay if u were in a house built for 4,5 or more. They r cheats, cheating Americans. and bus. benefits and don't pay taxes

They do pay taxes.....just like everyone else. If they work, they pay taxes out of their income; if they purchase something they pay taxes on it. If they buy a home, a car, property, or anything...they pay taxes. Register? For what? To vote, for the draft....for what? They can't register for either of those. Should they register for the simple fact that they're here? Well, now there's a novel idea! "Register that you're here...so we can locate you and deport you." We wouldn't have a lot of the issues we have with illegal immigration if it were that easy. As far as free healthcare goes…..I for one, my children included, would much rather be exposed to healthy “illegal immigrants” than sick ones.

The thing you are missing is the fact that it is not possible for illegal aliens to pursue citizenship or temporary work visa. The law does not give them that opportunity. They wouldn't be illegal if they could do that.

Most illegal aliens pay taxes with fake social security numbers that they report to their employers. They just don't get credit for the taxes they pay and get no deductions. So they end up paying more taxes than citizens.

In many states, they can't get a driver's license if they can't prove they are here legally. Without a license, they can't get insurance. You probably live in one of those states.

If you told any illegal alien thay they would have to pay taxes, learn English, get a criminal check, and apply for legal status, they would reply, Great! Where do I get in line?

If you want to give them that opportunity, call your congressman.

Poor people don't pay enough in taxes to even begin to cover the costs of education and other services, unfortunately. That is why we limit how many can come to begin with.

The issue is that they want lots and lots of cheap labor...everything else is irrelevant and secondary...that is, until US citizens start taking people to court over some of this...

they're afraid that registration just means that they'll now be opening themselves up to deportation

they're in hiding now, after registration, they'll be easy to find and they don't trust the government about it.

Also, illegals pay taxes... just not in the same way we do.
