I am a guy, and this girl started getting very flirtatious with me. At the height of the flirtation, she came over to me when I was alone, sat down leaning into me, and asked if her home number is on my cellphone. I said "No, but do you want me to get it and call you sometime." She quickly said no because "my parents wouldn't like that." She later put herself down, and I told her what I thought of her as a friend since she kept saying she was a bad one to people. Would you think by these actions that the guy likes you? Also, if you did not like the guy, would you back off after this? She treated me much different the next time she saw me. She was extremely nervous around me. I just want to understand. Thanks!

When you tell a girl that you like her as a friend, that can often surprise them because you appear to see qualities about them that extend beyond the physical appearance realm. She suddenly feels a certain respect for you and your opinion of her matters very much to her, even if it may have not mattered at all before. She is nervous because it suddenly means so much more to her than before that you like her and she wants your affection (not in a sexual way but as someone who cares about her and thinks she is "worthy").

It is really amazind the way girls will react when we give the impression that we like them not (only) for their bodies, but also for who they are. It's happened to me a couple of times, and I have stayed very good friends with them.
