I keep hearing people on here, say, "Well, just legalize them and let them pay taxes like we do"! Do you people even REALIZE that anything ILLEGALS may pay in taxes, would amount to NOTHING in the long run???? When you take into account that illegals who don't make much money, will STILL be eligible for welfare services, free medical, food stamps, etc!!! PLUS, they would then be eligible for Earned Income Tax Credit, so they would actually be getting BACK more than anything they pay in during the year!!!!! And, if legalized, they could bring their FAMILY here, which would provide even MORE welfare benefits!!!! And, all this EXTRA money, will come from the middle class taxpayers!!!!

"gidget" i have nothing against people coming here legally, but they need to be SELF-sufficient, and NOT a burden to taxpayers. They need to be educated enough to be able to take care of themselves AND their family WITHOUT draining our welfare system!!!!

You are absolutely right on that one! I have never been for immigrants coming over here and living off us hard working people, we already have enough free loaders!

No. Obviously you don't get the point they are trying to make.
If the problem is that some people are here illegally, address the problem. And the problem is, paperwork.
If they had filled out the proper paperwork, they would be legal aliens. So, fix the problem. Fix the paperwork.
The most sensible plan I've seen calls for allowing illegal immigrants to plead guilty to a misdemeanor violation of federal immigration laws. It's not amnesty, because it carries a criminal conviction.
They pay a fine, they pay back taxes, and they get on with their lives. Just like someone who had filled out the paperwork in the first place. Now, the proposal also specifies that this deal is only available to those who have no other criminal record, and who already have jobs. So, it doesn't add more the welfare pool. And the proposal only applies to those who have already been in the country for a number of years, so it doesn't grant any incentive for new illegal immigrants.
Plus, you're incorrect that a legal alien can automatically bring their family here. The family still has to go through the proper procedure. It's not talking about granting citizenship, just legal resident status.
Finally, if you don't like the welfare rules, change them. That's the simplest part of the process, and has nothing to do with someone's immigration status.

Illegals play a role in our society, these are people who have come from places where things were very hard. They come to this country and do not have a much better existance than what they have had in their old country. It is the children of these illegals that will contribute most to America, They are just trying to get by and create a better existance for themselves.
A little compasion and tollerance is needed to help these unfortunate people exist in this world of ours. It is these people that take the jobs that most Americans will not take. It is these people that shore up the foundation of out society.
In the long run these people do not take away a crumb of bread from you or me, in the short term these people will work in the factories and clean our houses to make our lives better. In the future the children and grandchildren of these people will be a big part of the American mosaic.

I am not sure if you are correct, because I don't know anything about that, but I do think that something should be done. It's a hard thing to deal with because on one hand we do have the hard working illegals who work for cheap and help out the contractors budget with building homes........but on the other hand we have the lazy illegals who won't work and come over here to get their women pregnant and have their children born here as citizens. Maybe that should be step 1.....just because you are born here, doesn't mean you have the right to be an American citizen......your parents have to be too.......ugh I don't know....its a mess.......you made some good points tho......

You should get your facts straight, when someone legalizes their status, they are NOT elegible for any government services, that is the first thing they tell you, also, when legalized, they can bring their family, but if they do it the legal way, it will take years to do it, and again, when they do, they will not be elegible for welfare or any other gov. services.

Whoa! The immigrants who choose government assistance in no way compares to the billions of dollars going toward the war, which is also coming out of our pockets. Are you as much of a crusader on this, as well?

If they weren't marginalized they could get better jobs. Not all immigrants are unskilled.
Also - immigration can grow your economy if immigrants are allowed access to it. Immigrants by cars, houses, groceries open businesses and so on. Cut off immigration and you'll find your country in a worse situation.

wtf is it that you want then?...... you're always complaining about something.... even if we deport all 12 million illegals, you'll still have millions of legal americans taking advantage of the welfare system and health benefits, and etc.... just look at the charts, who is on food stamps and welfare?
all the EXTRA money will come from ALL the tax payers, not just the middle class... If you're in the middle class, you probably don't even need free healthcare and other benefits...

I love it when you post something that is not 'cut and paste' and you don't think through what you seemingly believe is a good argument! And I love it even better when some one like CORAGRYPH shows up to riddle your post with holes - in the legal argument he presents, you look like an idiot. Stick to your cut and paste, would you? You truly do not understand the complexities of the immigrant reform, do you?
