Anybody have any ideas/ experience with building/ buying protective cases that would enable INDOOR stereo speakers to be used OUTDOORS? We live in Southern California, so the weather is pretty mild.

Indoor speakers are not made of water/high humidity resistant materials. If you love the sound quality of your current indoor speakers, you should invest in a pair designed for outdoor use. There a models that can be had for a reasonable price..:-)=

I just bought a pair of outdoor speakers at Radio Shack for 25 dollars a piece. They aren't great but they do exactly what they say they should do...that is play my music outdoors. If you can afford fifty bucks you will surely save your indoor speakers.
If your stereo has 'A' and 'B' speakers they you can have your outdoor speakers on 'B'. If not, you can buy a 'A' , 'B' , 'A+B' switcher for about 20 bucks (Also at Radio Shack)

They can be used outdoors if you build a case that will keep out the moisture and sun light...But patio speakers are the best way the have poly Plastic cones and composite cases(Plastic)..which will hold up to the weather better..and last longer..I've seen them as cheap as $20 and up..

They will last a while if they're not in direct weather (a year or two). Even if rain is not hitting them the temp. changes and humidity will destroy the cabinets as well as the drivers.

As long as you protect them from the weather - strong sun, showers, etc
