Oh My goodness, do not fall into the wedding propaganda. A year is more than enough time. There is no need to go to all these crazy wedding shows and to the giant Wedding shops where you are just another number.
Enjoy preparing for the wedding and have the things you want not the things society tells you to have.
this entire wedding industry is out of control.
I had a beautiful wedding planned under a year, at a hall, ceremony in a church, 7 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, 7 ushers and a ring bearer and I bought the bridesmaids dresses at Esprit! Yes, you can get dresses from other stores aside from bridal stores. They wore satin skirts and chiffon tops with a velvet empire sash. Very classy.
You can plan a wedding in 3 months if necessary.
Have fun!

My engagement is exactly 8 months...I highly recommend a shorter engagement just because of all the stress that comes with it...better to just get it over with instead of letting it drag out! And by getting it over with...I just mean it is possible to plan it in a few short months rather than wait and entire year. I thought our 8 months was too long. I would do it in 4 months if I had to do it all over again.....That way you plan everything quickly and it is still fun by the time the wedding date rolls around!

Good luck!

From watching friends, a year is long enough to plan a wedding unless you have a very specific date / location in mind. Then you might have to start planning even earlier to secure it. (Event and reception locations in some areas fill up very quickly, esp. for June weddings.)

We went from proposal in mid-January to married in mid-May... 4 months; did most of the planning online/e-mail since he lived 2 hours away. Honestly, I'm not sure what I'd have done if we'd decided on a whole year... probably wound up spending way more money on stuff that we didn't need...

A year is PLENTY of time. My wife and I did it in a few months, and it can be done in less.

The more flexible you are about venue (and specific date), the easier it'll be. Don't "set a date" until you have a date reserved at the ceremony and reception location. (And you've locked down any other "must have" participants... like the officiant.)

Once you have reserved all the non-negotiable stuff on a specific date, the rest will be easy.

I believe so. If you go to sites such as www.theknot.com, there are planning calendars that will let you know what should be done at what point, and they are usually within the span of a year. I am planning my wedding in one year and we are on track so far. Good luck!

I'm planning one for April of next year and one of my good friends planned one in 2 months. I think the biggest hitch will be getting your date at your church and reception hall. Check out the invitation sites and see how quickly you can get your invites. Good luck and have fun!
