you could double check his diet, make sure there is no sugar, processed food, wheat etc. All these things can trigger hyperactivity. If you have him on an natural, unprocessed low sugar diet, then maybe its something else, but a lot of kids are on junkfood at way too young an age so its worth just reassessing his diet in case something has slipped past you

Children this age are so funny. They see so many new things, and have so many new things to see, that they want to keep going forever just so they don't miss out on anything. I should know. I recently went through that with my daughter, and it does get better. As they progress through each learning stage they are able to start prioritizing. Somethings will become much more important to do, as other things are becoming normal, and therefore less intrquing. You can check out some books that have week by week for infant growth, and month by month for toddlers. Most libraries have them. I am posting some websites for you, so you can also check out archives, and chat with other Moms. Good luck! :) Oh, and just some advice, if you can take a nap when your child is, it will go a very long way in helping to keep up. My daughter would usually slow down enough to watch a few baby einstein videos. Those were life saving. :)

Everybody always talks about ADD and ADH, sometimes the kids are just hyper. Everyone doesn't have a disease. My two year old daughter is hyper as hell, but I love that she has that energy... sometimes, LOL. But we have all heard of the terrible two and he's on his way now. This is the age were they start explorng and getting into things. I think it's normal. I would worry if he just sits there.

Does he sleep? I have a 20 mth year old son & he is hyper all day but sleeps well at night - not sleeping can be a sign of a problem & you should take him to the docs. If he eats well & sleeps well then don't worry - avoid bananas - my little one only eats organic food, no juice, no e numbers - but bananas make him extra hyper!!!
Good luck!!

What do you feed him? Food with caffine and sugar can make him hyper. Feed him healthy foods and get him outside so he can run off some of this energy. Time will tell if it is hyperativity. This needs to be evaluated by a doctor. Some kids just have a lot of energy.

Before people started using words like "hyper" to refer to children rather than leaving them to science fiction authors, your son would have been considered normal. I figure he's probably just fine, unless he *cannot* calm down or sleep. I don't mean *won't* do it on your schedule, but CAN'T do it at all. If that's the case, he needs help. Otherwise, he's just one of those high-energy kids who need high energy, ever-alert parents.
My mother would have shortened all that to, "Boys will be boys" but I've seen a few girls like that, myself :-)
Relax and enjoy your healthy boy.

20 months old is not very old. It depends what you are feeding him. People are too quick to look for something being wrong nowadays. Find things that calm him down, like classical music and cut the sugar out of his diet. I am sure he is just full of life and there is nothing at all wrong with him

Maybe revise his diet, cos' e-numbers are good at hiding in food and making kids hyper. Or keep a diary of what he eats and then also of how hyper he is when he has certain meals, then you should be able to pin-point what the problem foods are. Good-luck.

All kids are different. Try making the house a bit quieter: switch off the tv, talk don't shout, all that kind of stuff. See if that calms him down.
If the kid is really driving you batty then make his room safe and leave him in there alone and have a cup of tea. Lock the door if need be. We're all a bit too over-protective, guilty, and worried these days.

Take a number of his wide-unfold toys a million at a time and tell him that they are all going to take a shower placed some bubbles and take a glance at to make it look tempting and a snicker. take a seat close the bath with him and play with the toys as though they are bathing merely so he can see that his toys are ok and that he's going to be too. Then probably he's going to opt to develop right into a member of them.
