We are thinking of getting another dog (our first is a lhasa apso). We just saw a Pekinese and it was the sweetest thing! We have a two year old and five year old; this puppy would belong to me, of course! But it would be wonderful to have something cuddly that didn't mind children. Of course they won't be allowed to be rough with it. Can some Pekinese owners give me their thoughts on how docile/good with children their dogs are? Thanks!

Pekingese are wonderful with children. They are not your "typical small dog". I had two pekingese in my family when I was a small child, and I have two more now. My children love our pekingese, and they get plenty of love in return. My pekes think they are big lazy hound dogs. Pekingese are not as hyper as other small dogs and spend most of their day just chillin'. I wouldn't trade those little balls of fluff for anything.

I think all dogs are OK with kids as long as you teach the kids to be easy with the dog and to let the dog know that the kids are only playing. We have two labs, a pug and are fixing to get another pug and they are all wonderful with my 2yr old and my 7 month old.

My husband had a Pekingnese that loved to be around children. He mourned when the kids weren't around. Just make sure to impress on your kids that they have to be easy with puppy.

The one my mom had when I was 4 didn't like kids and I still have the scar on my lip to prove it.

they are very good with children but the do get huge tho but they are gentle
