up to 4 months old, also it depends on the weight of the dog and what vet you go to.

The only reasons for clipping a dog's ears are if he's a show dog or if he's a fighting dog. If you were showing him, you'd already know the answer to your own question. If you're using him as a fighting dog, then you should be ashamed.

If he's simply a pet dog, then leave the ears as they are. It's cuter that way anyway and avoids the pain and trauma. Besides, you and your dog will get more attention from girls if his ears are a little floppy.

Clipping ears and tails is a stupid practice that does nothing for the dog or the owner. I prefer the natural look and I think the dogs probably do too.

IT`s cropping, not clipping. One clueless answerer states, there is no reason unless the dog will be shown or fought. You have no idea what you`re saying do you? So by your words are we to believe that in order for a "pit" to fight, he must have cropped ears? What is the natural vs cropped ear ratio at a professional match?

Is your dog a prime specimen that is going to be shown? If not, just leave his ears natural. There's absolutely no reason to crop his ears other than human vanity. Why put your dog through a painful cosmetic surgery that he doesn't need and that has the potential to kill him?

I'm with "GetEmGang"!

I had my doberman's ears done at about 4 Months. My vet had me feed her cottage cheese & egg (along with her puppy food) to build up the cartilage, so her ears would stand up properly. He said if you wait too long, the cartliage and muscles won't develop to make the ears stand up.

Yes, it's cosmetic, but I'd prefer to have my doberman look like a doberman and not a hound! And proper care afterwards is essential. I medicated her ears twice a day for about two weeks, until healed.

Also, dogs with floppy ears are more succeptable to ear mites, fungus, etc.

Pits with ears are beautiful in fact most people judge the dogs cuz of cropped ears. If you are going to do have a VET DO IT to many idiots do it themselves with no anesthetic for the puppy if you plan on doing that stick your pecker in a paper shredder tell me if that would feel good, cuz it don't feel good for the puppy to have his/her ears hacked off with a siccors. Think again before removing the puppy ears they are really beautiful with their ears. Ask your vet what age he/she thinks it would be appropriate (probably when you have the puppy neutered/spayed)

You can do it any time but it is the worse and most painful of any cosmetic surgery. And natural ears are so much cuter it will attract more attention with natural ears. I love to pet a dogs ears.
