When given to my father, my son screams bloody murder. My father has never dropped him and always try to be cheery around him. But for some reason he is just afraid of him. Any suggestions?

The weird thing is my son loves just about everyone. Even complete strangers he is okay with for a little bit. It may be the voice. He tries to use a higher voice when talking to him, but I'm thinking maybe he isn't consistent.

does your father wear glasses or have facial hair? that might be what bothers the baby. don't worry! he'll grow out of it! tell your dad not to take it personally (tho since he's already a father, he should know that much)

My daughter went through a phase like that with my Mom. She was about 6 months old had never been afraid of anyone (including strangers) never had a negative experience with my Mom and all of the sudden one day my Mom stopped by for a visit and my daughter screamed the whole time and would not let my Mom hold her. This lasted about a month and a half and stopped just as quickly and mysteriously as it had started. They get along great now!

It can be many things. A sound he makes or made in past. A look that he gives, or maybe he changed his looks since your son first knew him. It could be he has hurt him or caused pain to someone while he was in site of the confrontation. Maybe he saw a TV/movie that reminds him of a bad person. Is it possible that he has molested your son? I know that's a Tough one to think about but as a parent you have to explore all the possibilities, it just happens to be one of the worst thoughts.
I wish you luck and hope that you find nothing really bad.

When I was younger I reportedly loved being held by my dad or grandfathers (or generally men), but my twin sister only wanted to be held by women. This was when we were only a few months old, approx. same age as your son. Different strokes for different folks, even babies I guess! Other than making sure he's in a comfortable position when held by grandpa (same position you hold him him) I'm not sure what you could do, other than making sure grandpa isn't overly boisterous, which could scare him a little. Probably just a phase he'll grow out of.

If your father has a baritone voice, that may be the culprit. At such a young age and being used to subtle things, a male with a very deep voice may be very unsettling. If it's not that then it's just the child's intuition. Tell dad don't take it personal.

Its a stage that they go through at this age. It might be something that your dad has on like reading glasses or if he has a mustache or even his voice is deeper than yours which this could be scaring him. He will over come this fear of your dad. Just keep having your dad around will help in this matter and your son will soon come around.

All 3 of my kids have been afraid of my brother in law, ironically the gentlest and most fun of all of them but it has worn off. He is a big guy- tall that is, and doesn't wear glasses or have a beard or anything.
NOW, my baby is 3 and they love Uncle Greg... It is just a developmental stage, just don't force the little guy on grandpa but allow baby to see him from a distance he is comfortable with until he is through it.

My son was very indifferent and sometimes scared of my father-in-law and my husband's bestfriend. He's crazy about them now. It is my guess that it was because they are both very dark skinned. My family and husband are light skinned so I think it is that they both looked so different to everyone else he knew at that age. He soon got over it though. There could be something to the previous posters questions about facial hair, or glasses etc. Eventually your son will get over it. My son is now crazy about his "Pappi" and "Uncle Seany" I sometimes think he likes them more than me now!

your father might have a deep voice, or comes on a little strong. Does he have a beard or mustache? Does he smoke and you don't, maybe he is a little scared to hold him, and the baby can pick up on that feeling???

it is a stage and more than likely he will get over it. My daughter was the same way with my husbands father at that age and men with facial hair she would scream and scream now she is 3 and loves her paw paw to death.
