I own a sun conure parrot and I was wondering what a few good things to feed her would be. Things that people would eat. She loves sweets(cinnamon rolls, pop) but those are just treats b/c she will get really aggresive. She likes cereal but I want something that is healthy for her. Any Suggestions, no stupid ones either.

You can try just about anything you eat, EXCEPT for avocado and chocolate- those are both poisonous. Dairy isn't well tolerated either and will probably give your bird diarrhea.

I have a nanday conure and a senegal, and they enjoy, among other things: grapes, apples, tangerines, oranges, peaches, cherries, cantaloupe, broccoli, sweet potato, carrots, radishes, green beans, cauliflower, peanuts, walnuts, almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, pistachios, pasta, bread, peanut butter, Life cereal, Cheerios, popcorn and the occasional fig newton or Goya Maria cookie. The cookies are the only junk food I give them. I would NOT give your bird pop anymore... there isn't even a trace of nutritional value, and the empty calories and caffeine aren't healthy.

I disagree with the notion that fresh fruits aren't healthy for birds. Wild parrots (except for specialized ones like lories) eat a variety of foods, including seeds, nuts, fruits, shoots, buds, corns and sometimes bugs, so fruit is a natural healthy part of their diet. However, because our pets aren't as active as their wild counterparts, they shouldn't be given much fruit in proportion to other foods, like pellets and vegetables.

I've had a Sun and A Green cheek conure for 12 years.
Fruits are not good for pet birds. Neither are any kind of bread products. And seeds are the worst. Seeds are pure fat. Fruit are high in sugar and not a lot of nutrition. And bread products have a lot of yeast and can be a problem. Dark veges are the best . But I use a pellet type food that both vets I use sell and swear by.

The message from pauslhome was really good. Just remember that people food should only account for less than a quarter of their daily diet, so it really is just a treat. Harrison's is an excellent pellet. But fruits and veggies are great and provide a fun diversion for birds. Mine loves sugar and snow peas because he can pull the little peas out from the inside. It amuses him for a long time and he doesn't actually eat much considering the time he takes to remove the peas.

any type of vegetable, raw or cooked. Fruit is a good treat (not every day). Any food you may eat would be ok in small amounts. I have 7 birds (including a sun conure) and the highlight of their day is supper! They cannot wait to see what they will get. No onions! My birds love mashed potatoes, chicken, peas and corn. It is funny to see them with their beaks covered with mashed potatoes!!! If your bird does not eat new food at first, do not give up, it may take her some time to realize it is food. Make sure it is NOT HOT!
My avian vet said to make 20% of their diet people food. I usually go to grocery store every week and buy carrots, pepper, califlower, brocolli, green beans and cut them up for the birds. They get some for lunch every day. Night snacks may be a peanut, animal cracker, or cheerios (in small amounts). Do not give sweets or pop, that is not good for them. Occasionally my husband will give our african grey a cheese curl or a piece of banana popsicle, but that is not very often. Good luck with your bird, they make wonderful pets.

I don't think cinnamon rolls or soda is very healthy for a bird. They can have nuts, like unsalted sunflower seeds, raisins, grapes and apples. Stay away from anything citrus due to the acidity.

I have a White Fronted Amazon. She eats most everything I eat. Fortune cookies being her fave. But healthy wise, she loves dried fruit and fresh fruit (except citrus), fresh veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, carrots, she eats cheese, breads, fast food, you name it. I still give her a regular bird diet as well.
