Your cat may have a mouth infection, such as gingivitis, this is what happened to our cat some while ago, is he/she off its food?
If it is a very young cat there may be other causes, try to look in its mouth, if unsure take it to a vet.

It depends on the age of the cat, if he is young, take him to the vet he needs treatment. If he is old, it's probably his teeth, just like humans, cats teeth and gums become weaker over time.

My old mog drools all the time. The vet said that I could give him a pill every day for the rest of his life and it MAY stop or I could just put up with it. He is not in pain and the vet checks his teeth at his annual injection/checkup.

Cats are creatures of habit and he probably has a particular place that he likes to sleep. Put a towel or cloth there and change it periodically, that will save your furniture.

If it just started and he usually doesn't drool, seek vet assistance. Or if you just bought a new houseplant, check for bite marks. Drooling is generally a cats response to bitter tastes. If your cat is a persian or exotic shorthair, his jaws may just not seal as tightly as other breeds, or he may be in the lazy habit of leaving it agape. Either way this isn't fixable. You could buy baby bibs, VERY small ones, but make sure they have a velcro closure for choking prevention. Most have snaps or velcro now. Good luck. I have a few kitties who are notorious for their sloppy kisses, and I guess I'm just extra "lucky" to get them.

Cats drool sometimes when they are happy and content.
Sometimes cats drool when they have an infection in their mouth or even something else medically may be going on.

Drooling is frequently caused by bad dental problems; he probably has raging toothache or something stuck in his mouth or throat;---he needs a vet, fast.

Take it to the vet. It is probably its teeth and this CAN be fixed but is quite expensive as the cat has to have an anaesthetic to allow the vet to do proper fillings.
