Well, I call my Grandfather Pop. And I would also relate it to a fizzy drink that will invariably rot your teeth and put you on a sugar high for a few minutes, but it's an old fashioned word to use for it here. And I relate it to music as well; it used to reflect whatever music was popular at the time, but now refers to a specific genre. And finally, it's a noise, often characterised by a weasle... And I'm from East Anglia in England, UK.

from portland and I call it pop. I get weird looks from others and a lot of times I get "that's cute!" I have reformed others that used to call is "soda"
I think calling it soda is a bit stuffy and "stick up the buttish"
I've always called it pop even when I lived in California, oh yeah they really loved it down there!! haha
I think it depends on what you hear growing up.

There are many names for it across the U.S. In the midwest it's called Pop. Out east it's called Soda. In some parts out east and some parts out west it's called Soda Pop. In texas and surrounding areas it's called Coke. Just different names for the same, carbonated bevarages. For exampel, mountain dew, coca cola, pepsi, root beer, etc...

Soda or Soda Pop
I am from Georgia in the southeastern USA. How ironic because most people in the south call every type of soda "coke", although coke is a specific type of soda.

Well, I'm from Texas and everyone I know calls "pop" coke. It doesn't matter if it's Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Mt. Dew, or actually Coca-Cola we still call it coke.

I'm from Canada and I would interpret pop as a soft drink, but I don't personally use that term and you don't hear that much hear.
