Because they get tired of the same questions asked every day and start just making joke answers.

Because high-level answerers don't have time to type more than one line, and that quickly, before moving on to the next answer. It's the only way to rack up enough points to be at that high of a level. In addition, I suspect it's because they have no lives, and therefore have nothing to say worth hearing.
Just for the record, I am writing this response only based on some of the unintelligent, inarticulate, and non-insightful answers I have read. I am NOT basing any of these comments on respondants' levels! =)

Because many of us get tired of answering the same question two dozen times. This doesn't apply to the current question -- just provides an answer to it.
People ask the same thing over and over and over again, many (I assume) without ever bothering to read the past answers. So, frustration begins to show in those who have been here for a while.

you mean when the questions get more difficult or they need some thought to give a valid response to, you can usually tell by the answers you get why they bothered some for points some to take the mick, and then someone will give you an intelligent response, a bit like this one.regards LF

I don't agree with your premise. Some of the most stupid questions I have seen, and answers come from those of level one. Many of them aren't bright enough to realise that by asking a stupid question, they waste 5 points. Then their stupid question encourages stupid answers for a quick 2 points, and in fact fills the whole sytem with crapola.

Because they are desperate to get more points perhaps? Although I don't see why as in this case, points do not make prizes - as far as I am aware!

Because the road to the top is long and tedious and it is often pointless to continue answering long, drawling things.

The closer you get to the top the more tired you become.
