I find myself in this situation with a variety of subjects. I can rarely stick with one subject because I feel immediatly captivated by another. I always go DEEP into the subjects, trying to suck everything there is to know into my head.
I leave a lot of writing on those subjects unfinished because I'm occupied writing for another insterests of mine.
Is this a kind of intellectual obssessive-compulsive disorder?

I've got the same problem, if you can call it a problem. It meant I did very well in University and now have a good career. A friend who knows about these things - she's a clinical psychologist - says I have attention deficit disorder, and that this "locking on" to things is typical of that.
My suggestion is (a) make sure that you have a career where that is needed, but (b) find ways of focusing what you get obsessed about. That way, it could be your biggest strength.
Also, if you get obsessed about something that is productive (like a course you're in or a project that you have been given), then throw yourself in immediately, because the obsession won't last and you'll get stuck.
Also, team up with people who are good finishers. Finishers need starters like you, and you need them to keep you going.

Obsessive curiosity? I seem to be afflicted with that also, as I suspect a lot of others are.

there is no medical term for that specific phenomenon of which you ask (the way there are names for specific phobias, for example). might just be plain old obsessiveness, if you must pathologize.
