You'll need a blender, even if you don't have a special "milkshake" attachment or machine.
Press your favorite base flavor of ice cream around the blade, about 2-3 scoops. Add in about 1/2 c. of milk (or cream for extra creamy and thick - slightly different flavor, though), and whatever liquid or powdered additives you're going to use.
Start the blender on Pulse a few times. At this point, you can add any solid ingredients, and a little more milke/cream if you think it looks like it's too thick. Then blend for a several seconds either on "High", or "Liquify". Continue to blend for short intervals until it's fully blended. Keeping the blending jar cold, will help limit some of the melting separation that occurs, or you can just put into the freezer for a couple of minutes, and stir it together.
Or just drink that part first!

MILK SHAKE

Thick Milkshake

Blending ice cream with just milk may look like a milkshake but something will be missing when you taste it. Simply, it will taste dull. All milkshakes need a “kicker” added to it which is called fountain syrup flavoring, the milkshake will then taste creamy and rich.

TO MAKE FOUNTIAN SYRUP;

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

3 tablespoon honey

2 tablespoon corn syrup

pinch of nutmeg

pinch salt

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

Bring everything to a full boil, except the vanilla extract, stir rapidly with a wood spoon. Remove from heat and mix in the vanilla well. Chill in refrigerator, store in a covered glass jar.

Makes 4 milkshakes

MAKING A MILK SHAKE:

4 scoops ice cream, vanilla or chocolate or strawberry

4 tablespoon fountain syrup (1/4 cup)

Whole regular milk, pour milk slowly while blending on a medium high speed until you reach your desired thickness.

To make a malted milkshake add two tablespoon of malted milk powder. Malted milk powder can be found in most supermarket food stores.

Spice Milk Recipe, Hot or Cold

Mix together:

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

¼ teaspoon salt

3 tablespoon sugar or 4 tablespoon of either honey or white corn syrup

1 cup "Nestle Carnation" or another brand of can milk

4 cups regular whole milk

1 cup water

Stir or shake until sugar is dissolved. Serve as a beverage or on cereal

For Hot Spiced milk:

Heat all until thoroughly hot. Remove from heat and stir in 2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Serve at once.

To Make Spiced Milk with Splenda:

Add 3-1/2 tablespoon "Splenda" and combine with seasonings omitting the sugar, honey or corn syrup.

For a Cold Drink; Add ice cubes to the glass before you pitcher some in.

For a Delicious Milk Shake, Cool well in refrigerator, wet some glasses with warm water then place them in freezer for at least 10 minutes. Slow beat the spice milk recipe shown above adding 2 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 pint vanilla or a fruit flavored ice cream. Pour into frosted glasses and serve.

Makes 6 large servings.

Amounts of ice cream and milk depends on how think you like your milkshakes.... I happen to use very little milk especially if the ice cream is on the soft side. I DO have a tip for the best milkshake ever.... put a few spoonfulls of cake mix (just the powdery stuff out of the box) and blend everything. OMG so good!!!!!

Use as much milk and ice cream as you like...blend it with whatever you want, peanut butter, or nuts, or fruit, or
use a Blender on a speed to puree it down first then higher or lower depending on how thick or thin you like, check it every couople of seconds of blending for desired thickness.
for Chocolate shake---use Chocolate Syrup, chocolate ice cream and chocolate bars (like Sundae syrup or Hershey's or Nestle's) and Chocolate MILKor White Milk
for Strawberry Shakes-use canned or jarred strawberries if they ice cream has no strawberries, strawberry ice, and Strawberry Syrup...Strawberry Milk or White milk
For Vanilla-use about 1 teaspoon of vanilla (try to use REAL not imitation) Extract, and use Vanilla Ice Cream, and also for even better yumminess, a bit of plain vanilla pudding (or yogurt!) and Vanilla Soy milk or White Milk
