Congratulations! You sound excited about this move. Ok..you were in a house?..Then keep using your same themes if you loved them a lot..just on a smaller scale. You can always change your colors as you get more settled in..I am thinking how you can save some money at the beginning because you will be tempted to go out and buy all kinds of new things that may not be neccessary. Corner shelves that are wide enough to hold potted plants, candles, knick-knacks can be surprising, easy, and colorful. Braided rugs in front of the door, sinks, even entertainment center add texture and color. Small throw pillows left in corners as well on furniture adds a lot of warmth and welcomes guest to relax and enjoy themselves.

Always stay in budget and in your personality without adding clutter or hard to dust and clean.

Pastel colors make rooms sunny and inviting. Beige (cream) and white combination gives a room elegance. Try not to have more than 3 different major colors in a room to give it harmony. Little is more...is a good motto. No clutter. Lovely light curtains. a corner couch is more inviting and takes less space than a couch and two big chairs. A pullout table near a window with four matching chairs is always good. In a restaurant everyone wants the window seat: -)
Scatter rugs break up a room, so either just carpeting or wooden floors without rugs gives the room more flair.
It's so sweet to hear how excited you are. Take your time in deciding. The best decisions happen when you are already living there...so don't buy too much ahead of time.

IKEA - Ikea is the greatest place for decorating on a budget!! IF you wnt to splurge on something nice try Pottery Barn.com, even Target.com is a great place for home furnishings.

Congrats and good Luck

Oh a little hint, find out if you can paint, if you can, adding color to your walls is a great way to start off a room and it is inexpensive to paint. It will make the world of a difference just by adding some color

have a theme and work with that. you can get a lot of good stuff that won't clutter your house at:

cratesandbarrell.com

to help keep you organized and clutter free.

also try a to look in some furniture magazines i.e., ikea, pier 1, target, macy*s, and office depot.

they can give you some ideas and help you decorate.

look online for some decorating trends and have a price range that you are willing to set for room/items/accessories etc. . .

If you do not mind goinf to a flea market, garage sells and want ads you can find some good things at a great price!

also watch HGTV, this is where i get my info.............

perfect question: always remember, less is more.the bedroom is all yours,i'm not gonna touch that. think of your favorite colors, for the two of you. A large area rug for the living rm. Always have a big screen, (for company) and a couple of recliner chairs and stereo and your good to go. Have fun! Oh yeah, make sure you have at least ONE tall lamp. It puts the touch on any apt. Maybe go to Pier 1 or a fancy furniture store. Have fun!

You can start out by deciding what's the style you're looking to create in your home. I reccomend watching home decor channels like HGTV, they give very good advice. There are many shows that show you where to buy inexpensive furniture and fix it up yourself. From there you can visit stores like Home Depot and WalMart that have home decor sections. Also try thrift shops and places like the Salvation Army where people donate and/or sell their furniture when they redecorate their homes. Home should be a reflection of yourself and your personalities, so have fun! Hope this helps.

For storage, think VERTICAL. Cabinets, racks, ect. I saw this show where a woman in NYC had a tiny apartment but made the most of it by being smart about using the wall space she had. I'm going to do that when I redecorate my tiny kitchen :)

I always like the shabby chic look...you can get a hand-me-down couch and buy a slipcover for it, hang some dried flowers, put a pretty rug down, and add a few accessories like pretty picture frames or scented candles for not too much money...check this out...
