You just haven't taken a good dump until you have a three year old giving the rest of your family a "play by play"
"Daddy! Mommy pooted!" she shouts with glee, then she says "Mommy-say scuze me"
"Excuse me." I say, then I "grunt"
"Daddy! Daddy! Mommy went poopie" giggles "Daddy! It stinks, Daddy-come smell it daddy!"
Laughter from the living room as the in-laws sh*t their pants laughing at me.
"Mommy-what color is it this time? Is it orange again? Why don't you poopie like the cats in a box in the closet? Can you peepee and poopie at the same time?" and it just goes down hill from there.
And all you can do is laugh and take some comfort in the notion that similair scenes are playing out in bathrooms all across the globe.

You and I both know that daddy's do some scandalous stuff in the bathroom!!! Would you subject yourself to being in the bathroom with your man?
But seriously. it's a bonding thing. Mommy spends more time with them, provides most of their needs, & makes them feel safe.... so they will normally want mommy
my son is 3 years old (4 in January) ...I went through the same thing but now since he wants privacy when he goes "potty" I've explained that "potty" time is mommy's alone time too.
He is starting to understand

Closeness to mother, bonding. Has nothing to do with the potty but soon could be used to your advantage on training huh?
Rule #1 for those wanting kids,
you can't pee, bathe, sleep, watch TV, read, or anything till they go to school and unfortunately your usually working.
When you have kids and are a good mom till their about 13-16 no privacy period. That is when they want theirs. :-)

Toddlers, (and everyone else for that matter) should steer clear of the bathroom for a good 1/2 hour after daddy is done using it. They know who makes it stinky.

In my house it is both ways. I have 2 year old twins and they both want to be on my lap when I am in there. If I lock the door they start banging and crying until I let them in. My wife likes to stand there and say, "Now, you know what it is like for me all day!"
What?!? Does she have 2 children bothering her when she is in the bathroom while a perfectly able bodied person who could pre-occupy them is standing in the doorway yelling at her?

oh my gosh!, I have to admit, this is one of the best questions on here and you should be given the points asking it! I have 3yr old and 2year old twins and I swear they can go all day without being near me except when I have to go to the bathroom or am on the phone. It's like the phone triggers their thirst senses and hunger pangs.

First, your child doesn't prefer one parent to the other. Second, all I can say about the "potty invasion" of privacy is that you should tell the child that he/she is not to be in the "potty" unless he is taking a bath or going to the bathroom.

i hate to break the bad news to you, but it does not stop... i can spend 2-3 hours with my kids, sometimes its lots of conversation sometimes minimal but the second i get on the phone, computer, or go to the bathroom, they have so much to talk about.............they have never done it to their dad..... but it's almost like you have to be in their view......

I think its because our kids want to be close to us, and they are just generally interested in what the body looks like, and us women have a more appealing body to look at, what kid would want to look at a naked man?
plus mommies tend to have funnier reactions to it.
oh, and one more thing? it never stops, in fact, i still do it to my mother just to get a scream out of her...lol
