What diplomacy has been tried, eh? Does the USA talk to either of these two countries?
I agree with Fred's post above. Nuclear weapons are not a god given right, that only the US and the other few nations are allowed to possess. Before Shrub talks about non proliferation he needs to disarm the over 5000 warheads of various sizes stockpiled away. Actually if every nation had the same destructive capability then the world will be forced to have dialogue and there will be no more wars. Look at India and Pakistan, or India and China. They all have nukes and they all have started talking to each other. The more I think of it, the only way for the human race to unify is by one of two means: either everyone has nukes or no one has has nukes.

Excuse me, what diplomacy has been tried? US refuses to speak to either. Iran's president sent a 16 page letter to Bush offering talks, received no answer. North Korea made many overtures for one-on-one talks with US, were rebuffed.
(5 party talks that the US wanted were totally unproductive because of opposing interests of the particular states involved, N Korea said let's have bilateral talks US repeatedly said no).
What Bush says is "my way or the highway", and we don't have to talk to (Syria, Iran, N.Korea, Lebanon) they "know what they're supposed to do." This is diplomacy?

We cant allow iran to have nuclear weapons. these people are willing to die for radical islamic beliefs. Nuclear weapons, in thier hands, would give them a means to kill millions that they consider "infidels". North Korea is ruled by a dictator. We should send Navy Seals in to take him out. We should have concentrated on North korea rather than Iraq. Millions of Koreans would be grateful for this. Iraqis dont seem to be to grateful about removing saddam. I guess my answer is to do secret ops in removing the radical leaders of oppressed states such as these

Well, the answer to this question should be forthcoming before the end of the year. If the US waits longer than that both countries will be militarily threatening to its neighbors not to mention the whole world in general. I am afraid that the only avenue left at that time will be to make the first military strike and not a little one but all out attack on both countries' military installations!

Butt their noses into it, like they do all the time. I do not even begin to understand WHY we are in a war. Why can we have nuclear weapons but no one else can? Why does the president waste OUR tax dollars so WE can be the BEST and ONLY Country in the world. Has it always been this full of ourselves to have to always have complete control of everything on this Earth, no wonder why people hate us. We have to be bigger and better than anyone else in the world. If we weren't what would happen? The deficit would start to go down.

N. Korea is begging us to talk to them, so that they can try to blackmail us into giving them more stuff than we already did before....really sad...I am glad GWB won't go it alone with these crazies. Sanctions are in their future.
Iran is a completely different issue....I have a feeling sanctions will be placed on them next month, and then we'll see how they react. I can see them doing some more sabre rattling, but after their nuclear sites get bombed by Israel they will shut up.

Iran - seemingly little or nothing
N. Korea - keep 'em caged up until they either get tired of their nonsense or provoke us into erasing them - OR - convince the Chinese (actually, WE can't convince the Chineses of anything but maybe they'll finally see the light) to cut Kim Jong-Il off (oil, food, etc.) and the N. Koreans will become very tractable very soon (or, they'll go off and we'll erase 'em)

I know this as a law abiding citizen of the USofA. LEAVE THEM ALONE!!! Our country has enough problems right here that lazy Bush needs to fix. We need to learn to stop being the bully. And grow up as a country.

Not every problem has an American solution. That is especially true with Dubya in the White House.
