Another way to get experience in this field is by working with your local college or univerity's student services office. Many times, visually impaired students will need whole textbooks (or at least chapters) read on tape and there is no audio version of the text already available. These offices usually hire students and others to record these texts especially for the students who are using them.

If your talking about books on tape you will have to talk with publishing companies. Do not know what requirements will be required. Guessing major in English or what ever language you use most and minor in acting. To get experience you could see if there is any reading for the blind programs in your area. They are always looking for volunteers in my area.
