He's responding to a female in heat. The rolling around on the floor is the first giev away on that. If he's an outdoor cat WHY ISNT HE FIXED??? You need to get him nuetered. He'll start spraying if theres a female scent around, and then you'll have a bigger problem than just meowing. Please please get him fixed, dont be a cause for the uncontrolled cat population. But yeah.. thats whats going on.

Good lord! All these cat knowledgeable people here that do not know that cats are just like humans. The females are the only ones that go into "heat". Unneutered males are always ready to breed when there is a receptive female.
Your cat should be neutered for his health and safety. More unneutered male cats are killed by cars because they are intrepid wanderers when they scent a female.

He is talking to you! Is he neutered? He may be telling you to let him out. That could be it! My cat makes different noises for different reasons. Like, if you open the fridge, you get a really demanding meow (he wants some ham). If he is meowing at the door, he wants out (or in, depending on which side of the door he's on) but I would guess yours really just wants a girlfriend!

If he's meowing a sound like MeowROWr! MewoROWr! over and over as he paces the perimeter, he's looking for females. He needs some lovin'. Rolling around may be spreading his scent across his territory. It depends on the sound and the behavior.

The same way they (the animals) have not understood us, we cannot understand them eigther. Well, Cats will be Cats. It maybe because they are in a mood to play or something like that. Dogs sometimes bark unnecessarily too you know. Animal psychology is very difficult to know.

It sounds like you cat is in heat. They make numerous sounds when looking for a male partner including howling. If you dont want kittens then you should have your cat fixed.

If he is not neutered he may be wanting to get out especially if he smells another female cat in heat. He also may be bored and want you to play with him.

You just have a very vocal (and possibly very intelligent) cat!
Cats KNOW how to get you to do what they want. There is a reason why people say they don't own cats, CATS own THEM.

Arg! My cat does this too... He's just very vocal, some are. My cat will cry and cry and wail for no apparent reason! Or sometimes, when he wants something...or if he's lonely.
Cat's are crazy....
