Both of my children have eczema and the dr. prescribed elidel. After I read the possible side effects, I would rather not rub it on them all the time.

I use a safe natural lotion called Renew, you would not believe how well it works. No steroids, no side effects.

The thing is with eczema the creams and lotions are normally packed with steroids and cortisone, which will thin the skin, and in extreme cases cause the "moonface" effect.
But the thing people are not aware of is that when using these creams u should only use your small finger nails sized amount, and that is the standard dose! as the skin absorbes it as it is pourus!

There are alternatives you can use anti-hystamines such as allergex, and there is a great cream called epi max, you apply it is got no perfume and no irritants and is not tested on animals and this actually soothes the skin!

with children id also be worried about the side affects but if you use it in moderation and stick to the dosage it should be fine! just keep an eye on the area you will apply it to, if you notice rashes, or minute pimple's stop using it immediatly!
and contact your pharmacy or Dr for an alternate choice, there are so many out there such as mylocourt!

I have had eczema on my feet since childhood. I swear by oatmeal products. I've even used ground up oatmeal in a pinch. Just grind some up in a blender and put in a clean nylon. Wet with warm water and dab it on the eczema. It really does work. What I find best, though, are Aveeno products. They have a body wash and bath and shower oil that are wonderful. Their bath powder is very good also. It can make the bath tub messy so what some people do is to put the powder in a clean nylon and let it soak in the bath water for a few minutes. No mess in the tub. Aveeno also makes good lotions. The oatmeal really helps with the itch.

I had eczema too when I was a baby. Actually I still have its, I am 17. The stronger dose of the hyrdocortisone is great. I think he might be too young to take any pills. There are pills to reduce the itching and the redness. It's really not a steroid type cream, just because it's strong. Keep using it and if things get worse, go back to the doctor and ask for something else.

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.

Both my kids suffer with it and i tend to say away from the creams the Dr gives .. this is what i do and it helps

1. Bath them in a warm bath to which you add camomile tea ( a
tea bag is good)
2. let them soak in the bath don't use any soap it will help to stop
the itching and cools the skin (even you can use it when you
feel hot)
3. don't use a towel to dry them but use a hair direr on a cool
setting this will make the skin soft
4. rub in some good cream something like E45
5. within a week or so you should see an improvement

I suggest all natural Optiflora. It treats the cause and not just the symptoms. Often times when we have something going on inside our bodies it will manifest to the outside in a form such as eczema.

Optiflora two-product system uses new technology to protect beneficial microflora during the rigors of shipping, storage, and the acidic journey through your stomach. Other products claim live microflora at the time of manufacture. Optiflora guarantees the delivery of live microflora (500 million) to your intestines. This is a patented process

This two-product system includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus...microflora ) + Prebiotic (FOS...food source for microflora).

Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Best Wishes

flaxseed is powerful in fighting eczema.

Supposedly eczema comes from a lack of fatty acids and Omega 3 oils in the diet. You can use th oil or grind your own seeds and eat fresh. I like to mix mine with oatmeal.

You need to use it consistently though. Can't stop once it clears

Some people take oatmeal baths to relieve the itching.

Use lotions everyday. Some good ones are Eucerin, Nivea and Lubriderm.
