I find that if you put too much in a spread it overpowers it.
for a garlic spread I use
1/2 pound of softened butter
1 head of roasted garlic
1 tablespoon of grainy dijon mustard
worcestershire sauce to taste
and a little hit of Frank's hot sauce

What you should do is mix your garlic and butter and spread it on the bread - then top with the cheese and bake it until crunchy.
Why ruin the bread with all the other stuff?
If you want something to dip your bread into, then try an olive oil. Like what you get at Johnny Carinos or any Italian place. Not sure what all it has in it, but garlic and olive oil, I know.
Let me see if I can find a recipe for it.
I will be back

French Bread can also be used
Garlic Bread
Yield: 4 servings
2 (4-inch) whole-wheat pita breads
2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 large garlic clove, peeled and halved
4 teaspoons grated Parmesan
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Position rack about 6 inches from the broiler and preheat broiler. With a small knife, cut a slit about 2 inches long in the side of both pitas. With your fingers, pry apart the 2 pita halves. If the pita is being stubborn, microwave it for about 30 seconds to soften it up. Lightly brush the rough side of the 4 pita halves with olive oil and then rub with the garlic clove. Cut each pita into quarters.
Arrange the pitas in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Evenly sprinkle the pitas with the Parmesan, salt, paprika, and oregano. Place under the broiler and broil for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

I think what you have so far sounds good to me for a spread on garlic toast and I would not add anything else, but you can go further. For me garlic toast was just toast, butter, and some garlic powder. Just plain butter is fine.

mic in some parsley and romano cheese. Re-chill a little. Shape butter into anything you want and re-chill it until hard. Yummy! Now I am hungry. Have a good time tonight.

What you have now is PERFECT, don't mess with it! Spread the bread with it and toast lightly in broiler just befor serving. Remember the K.I.S.S. principle, Keep It Simple Stupid! No personal insult intended here, just a good principle to remember.
