Themes? 14 year old boys want THEMES??? Aw, come one...you watch too much Extreme Makeover! This is real life.

Try ASKING! Your 14 year old boy probably knows exactly what he'd like. Then you negotiate and come to a compromise that you can both live with.

The theme should be determined by the boy's interests, as should the colors. He's old enough that he will want a lot of input, I would think. What's most important to keep in mind is that you choose a theme and colors that he will be happy and comfortable with for several years, or that is at least neutral and flexible enough in design that it can be updated easily as his interests and needs change.

14 yr old boys are FUN!! Don't worry, most like almost anywhere there is a bed, and place to throw their clothes, and have some privacy.

MOST of the boys I know, like bolder colours, red's, blue's, oranges and browns. I would suggest painting his room in a light tan/beige colour, and accent it with all the other colours. That way when they get tired of one set of colours, you can change them easily.

Good luck with your decorating venture.

Go graffiti. Light gray or cement colored walls and maybe one z-brick wall (fake brick....cheap) and then go study the local graffiti...copy it with spray paints on one or two of the walls(so fun, use any color) Then for bedding use colors you see in a city street like construction orange or stop sign red. Make sure lighting and hardwear are all sort of industrial looking.
You can even get fake street signs and lights.

I'm working on my 15yr old son's room.. He wants it white with black trim..and with a checkered theme. I'm going to make him a bulletin board....with checkers...to put his friend's pictures and movie tickets and stuff......I'm also...going to put old skateboards for shelves. etc...Black and white should be exiting for a 14 yr old... We were going to make ..kind of like a tool room...with tool boxes to put things in.... that's a good one too.. But we decided to make it black and white checkered with a skateboard theme (that is what he likes the most)...Think about what he likes.....and include..all that into the decorations...Look for ideas in magazines.... Good luck.....!!

It really depends on what this 14 yr old guy likes.. if you just go & do it on your own & he dosen't like it. Well you'll have another problem, better yet why not ask him to help you..

I'd go with neutral colors to provide a nice backdrop for the posters that will cover the entire walls. Any color carpet will do, you'll never see it for the wall-to-wall dirty clothes.
