First of all, GET THE CAT TO THE VET ASAP. What ever they are, they are now in your home. Secondly there's a good chance you kitten has worms. As mentioned by someone else it could be lice. It's not fleas, fleas are dark and look like little black pepper spots. Its not ticks, because ticks are huge. You've got some nasty parasite and it's probably going to do some harm to your kitten if you leave unresolved. DON'T IGNORE THE VET. You need need need need to get him in. If cost is a problem, you shouldn't be owning a cat. But no, if cost is a problem call the local humane society or any other cat groups (rescues) and they'll send you to a low costing vet. Good luck and I hope your at the vet!

Cats have one biting louse and that is Felicola subrostratus. Different species affect dogs including Trichodectes canis, Heterodoxus spiniger, and Linognathus setosus. None of the lice of cats or dogs present a problem to humans.

What are the symptoms?

The most noted sign of a louse infestation is a scruffy, dry hair coat. Hair loss may occur and the animal may itch, at times severely. In very heavy infestations of blood-sucking lice (biting), one may detect anemia. A diagnosis can usually be accomplished with the naked eye. Nits tend to be more visible than the actual louse, but both can be seen.

What is the management?

Of all the parasites of cats and dogs, lice are the easiest to eliminate, and they pose no threat to you or your children. Treatment is relatively simple. The cat may be bathed with a pyrethrin shampoo approved for cats. After the cat is thoroughly dry, a pyrethrin spray or powder can be applied. This treatment will need to be repeated in 10-14 days since all of the nits will not be killed. Alternatively, fipronil (Frontline) has been approved for the treatment and control of lice in cats. Another option is a dip in lime sulfur at a concentration of 2%. It usually is not necessary to treat the environment, but flea and tick foggers may help, especially in severe cases. Keep all grooming utensils clean. This is fixable. Do't panic.

Get the kitten to the vet. It could be several different things, including some parasites like tapeworm segments or pinworms. You need to protect yourself as well as the kitty by getting professional advice.

Lice. Take him to the vet, the vet will decide on an appropriate treatment (usually something nice and easy like Frontline) - and do remember to clean all bedding and soft furnishings too, nasty little parasites will only re-infest your kitty otherwise!

Sounds like fleas to me. Kitty needs a bath. If she's still really small, make sure you get kitten shampoo or take her to the vet. HTH!

Go to your local pet store and go in the shampoo aisle. There is a brand called Zodiac that takes care of this. It is for cats and dogs and I use it for my dog. It has 3-5 steps so get everything. You might want to get your cat a flea collar.

she might have lice or parasites, you should definitely take her to the vet to get this taken care of. depending on where you saw the little "specks" they could be part of a tapeworm, definitely talk with a vet to find out for sure. good luck!

Sounds like it could be lice to me. Fleas are dark in color, mostly black I think.

Fortunately haven't seen a flea in many years.
