You mean just 18?? or 18,000? Anyway whichever it might be, it is definitely something to be worried about. The normal White Blood Cell count is 4,500-10,000 white blood cells/mcl (cells per microliter).
Low numbers of WBCs (leukopenia) may indicate: bone marrow failure, presence of cytotoxic substance, collagen-vascular diseases (such as lupus erythematosus), disease of the liver or spleen, and radiation.

do you know what the red count is or did they tell you. I don't think you need to worry but just to be on safe side as your doctor and he should tell you.

It means she has some kind of infection, need more blood test. Is your doctor incompetent?
