I see this used and see an immediate responce. "I am not a chick!" Chick is a nickname for an attractive female type person. Dude, guy, man, etc are all ok for men/boys but say "chick" and the women/girls get excited.
Is it because you don't have anything else to complain about?

Also it seems that if an attractive guy says it it is ok but if he doesn't look good then it is not..... how strange.

Thanks to all of you, even your few that were rude. Many of you made me laugh!
We seem to live in hypersensitive times, personally I am weary of dancing thru life trying to avooid stepping on any toes.
I think "chick" is cool, but I think "cool" is cool too, so I quess I am lost in time and space.

Perhaps it is just “something to complain about” but getting girls usually means not p*ssing them off, so it is probably a good thing at least pretend you care about her pet peeves…
It is not considered respectful to refer to a girl as a “chick”. It kind of goes in the category of “babe” or skirt…It makes a lot of women feel as though they are being diminished and disrespected and could really turn them off.
Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with referring to a girl as a “chick” if you know her and know that she is not sensitive about those things, but I’d play the safe side on this one if I were a boy…

I ran a search on the web and to my horror we, the men, may have been wrong all along! These are the meanings I turned up!
1.) A young bird (originally a dialectal form of chicken)
2.) A young chicken.
3.) The young of any bird.
I guess this term can not be acceptable as a valid and logical synonym for a "girl" mainly because they are not birds. I have been brought up to believe that birds and humans did evolve from a common ancestor though. That could be the only reason in favor of calling girls by this monicker. By that far fetched logic, it would be appropriate to call them dinosaurs(cumbersome though), spiny ant eater, echidna, Praying mantis and other names.

Man is acceptable and does not connote anything but maturity.
Boy said to a boy connotes youth, but derogatory is said to a man.
Youngun if said to a thug may be acceptable, unless he finds offense in your colloquillism and connotes it as boy.
Sumpin like a Pimp said to anyone other than a pimp may be an insult. If said to a pimp it acknowledges his skills.
Stud to some immature men find that a compliment, yet others do not consider themselves on the level of dogs and resent it.
Slim Goody said to someone who knows what the terminology implies will stick out their chest in acknowledgement, but to someone who does not they may think that someone is making fun of their slight build.
Likewise, a woman has so many undesirable terms associated with her lack of knowledge or excessive knowledge of their sexual prowess or sexuality. To some women to proclaim them sexy is showing too much familiarity, whereas others may definitely find that complimentary. I'd stick to the politically correct for of address, until you can accurately judge the character of women, to know what to say to whom.

Do I look like a baby chicken to you? Same thing with dear, hate it. Don't mind babe, or hon though. Dude is mostly used by guys talking to other guys. You don't hear girls calling each other chick do you.

A 'chick' is a baby chicken. To use a term for a farm bird to refer to women is rude, insulting, and disrespectful, not only to women, but to men as well.
Besides, broads don't like it.

Because they think there is some hideous sexist message when you call them that. Many of them have been brainwashed into thinking that the world is conspiring against them in some sexist way. So, many of them go around with a chip on their shoulder, just looking to perceive any kind of slight which would support their belief.
My advice is to call them whatever you feel like calling them. They won't like anything you call them, so you might as well just ignore them and their paranoia.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with it. I'd rather be referred to as a "chick" than a "female", as I see many men do. Female is so generic to me...a female cow, a female dog, a female lizard. It's just stupid. I'm a WOMAN. A FEMALE HUMAN.
I think chick is cool. :)

It's more respectful to call a woman a lady. Chick is a slang word, and a old one too. That's all.
