A movement within catholicism characterized by high-energy masses that are more commonly associated with the Penecostal denomination of the Protestant movement. There are even reports of 'speaking in tongues' and 'visions'.
Most of the later popes have said that this movement could prove vital in re-energizing the Church. Though they also caution that these worshipers should remember they are Catholic first and charasmatic second.
This term applies to their worship and prayer styles and should not change alter their views on Chruch Doctrine (birth control and other modern picking points). When this occurs they begin to place themselves outside of the Church.

The word "charisma" is derived from the Greek word meaning GRACE. So a genuinely charasmatic catholic-chrisitan-servant of the Lord is one who is being bathed in the grace, love, peace and forgiveness of the Lord and is emersed in devotional service of the Lord without ANY selfish interests whatsoever. If the seemingly charismatic energy is NOT spiritualized however (is not really grace) and is being used by the false-ego instead of the spirit-soul, then that "charisma" is nothing more than egoic "charm," where the rascal false ego uses its charm (grace-not) to manipulate someone or circumstances to get something that the ego wants. Beware, as many charismatic people can be "wolves in sheeps' clothing." They often have a sweet glow, wonderful smile, sparkling eyes about them, are nice and even sweet, may say they are christian-catholic and act that way, but then they can "burn you" real bad! Only a truly deep spiritualist can tell the difference between the snake and the true servant of the Lord! And some snakes don't even know they are snakes!

Charismatic Catholicism, also known as Catholic Charismatic Renewal is a movement within the Catholic Church which adopts certain practices and beliefs more commonly associated with the Pentecostal movement within Protestantism. Worship services are characterized by a high energy Mass, as well as prayer meetings featuring prophecy and sometimes glossolalia, or "speaking in tongues." Some supporters within this movement see it as based on the belief that certain charisms (a Greek word for gifts), such as the abilities to speak in tongues and to heal (which all Christians believe existed somehow in the early Church as described in the Bible) should still be practiced today.
Nonetheless, many Charismatic Catholics reject the preeminence given by Pentecostalism to glossolalia; many also reject what they consider to be legalism.
Catholic Church Christ the King in Ann Arbor's website (http://www.rc.net/lansing/ctk/welcome/index.html) describes Charismatic Prayer, "A charismatic style of prayer is common at Christ the King. People are free to raise their hands in prayer and during songs, many pray their own prayers audibly, some pray in tongues, etc.... We pray with expressive or charismatic prayer at monthly parish prayer meetings, at the beginning of parish meetings, and most especially during certain moments in the Holy Mass. These are some of the external markers of a charismatic parish. Internal markers include a radical surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all parts of life, a strong adherence to the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church, and the pursuit of strong friendships centered on Christ."

They are Catholics who have accepted Acts Chapter 2 and the chapters in the last part of I Corinthians as being part of today. They still want the traditions of the Catholic church but have personalized the prayers and the prayer life to include the gifts of the holy spirit.

Charismatic Catholics are a branch of the catholic church who believe in the gifts of the spirit... especially miraculous healing, speaking in tongues, seeing visions, etc. During their church services, people are likely to speak in tongues, interpret spoken messages, get "slain in the spirit" and "Shake and lurch" all over the church floor.
