We need help with our 1yr. old domestic short-haired cat! She is driving us crazy at night, crying by the bedroom doors, jumping on our countertops in the kitchen, turns on the faucets, etc. Is it okay to get a kennel/cage for her to go into at night? If so, do we need to put in a litter box and food/water? I'm not trying to be inhumane or anything. Just want what's best for our cat and so we can get some sleep at night!

The cat is spayed, and I am home with her all day, everyday as well as 2 toddlers who play with her.

your best bet would be to try and spend time with the cat during the day -- keep her/him up by playing with them.. Don't let it sleep all day.. If during the day this is a problem try 1 hour during the evening.. this should work.. Has for mine and i got 5 cats.

Is the cat home alone during the day?if so then she spends her time asleep and then wakes at night . That is the big cause of her roaming up all night. If you are home days. Try and keep her awake If your home at night only then play with her have cat toys. Keep her active and she will sleep. Why can she not come into the bedroom often cats just want some company and to sleep with you at night.
Keeping a cat caged up is not a good plan. If all else fails get her a cat for company

The other posters are correct - don't let the cat get a lot of rest during the day time. But how to do that if you are away all day?
- if you have an answering machine, call the house a few times a day and shout your cat's name, blow a whistle, sing...whatever is likely to wake your cat.
- set two or three alarm clocks to wake the cat (get the type that will shut themselves off after a few minutes).
- don't leave the same handful of toys out all the time. Put one or two toys about before you leave. A couple of days later, put those away and put out two different toys. This keeps the toys novel.
- Treat-a-balls, Kitty Kongs and Buster Cubes are great toys for keeping cats busy. Fill them with treats and/or a spoon of canned food. The cat will need to work at getting the food out. This is a great option if you keep food out all day. Just pour it into the toy instead of into the bowl.
- if you have the resources, hire a cat sitter to play with her in the middle of the day. Even if this is done just once a week, it will be beneficial.

I know how that goes, one of my cats will go under our bed and scratch on our bed at various times durring the night. so we got a large dog crate and a small litter box and one of those water things for like hampsters that they lick the spout and the water comes to them. much easier than cleaning up the water that is dumped in the crate ever day...I don't put food in the crate because we have set time feeding schedule.
Both of my cats have turned on the water faucet on several occations, but we have given up on trying to keep them off of counter tops I put down some shelf paper on the counter and when I need to use the counter I take the shelf paper off and then put it back when I'm done.

Feed you cat one meal a day and do it just before your bedtime. Then you cat will be full and content and want only to take a nice long quiet nap.
The next morning if there is any catfood left, throw it out. Don't feed your cat during the day. Be patient, this may take a few days for the cat to get used to the change.

Feed your cat can cat food right before bed. She may act crazy for a little while but should just wash and go to sleep. I do this for my cat and she sleeps through the night, and she is active. It's worth a try with yours.

HI. you would not be inhumane to cage train your cat, but i think he would cry and destroy the cage all night and drive you more crazy. try it tho. only way to know if it will work is to try it.
Have you tried leaving the bedroom door open or does he climb and jump around in there too. i know i have 4 cats and if i have work they are not allowed in the bedroom. on my days off, sometimes i let them annoy me all night. perhaps a younger cat to keep him busy. my guys play and drive each other nuts instead of me. anyway, curious what happens with the cage training........good luck

I think it is okay to get a kennel. I don't know about the litter box though. I don't think it would fit. Maybe someone else will know more about this. Sometimes you can call your vet just to ask a question even if it's not health-related. Vets know everything.

has she been spayed? if not, she's crying for a mate.... deperately crying for a mate... she'll do anything for a mate... NOW!!!
so to get yourself some peace, take her to the vet as quickly as possible and get that girl fixed.
she'll love you for it.
if she has been spayed, she needs more exercise and play during the day hours so she won't want to play during the night, get her tired out during the day, then she'll sleep when you sleep. if that doesn't work, then yes, find a comfy place for her to sleep away from you.
good luck.

We used to have a multi element cat tree (floor to ceiling style) and it had a mouse on a stretchy string putting from the appropriate. one in each and every of my cats used to snatch the mouse and stretch it in the course of the residing room till she lost her grip and it went flying back in the course of the room to smack into the wall. faster or later she did that and one in each and every of our different cats jumped on a platform. even as Morph enable the mouse flow it smacked the different cat interior the butt and, properly i do not imagine i have ever seen her bounce so extreme!
