This is not an attack on people who have more than 2 pets but I'm just wondering why? As you own more pets, cost goes up for litter and food, there's more poop and cleaning of the poop, as well as increase medical cost. We have one kitten and he's a bundle of joy but he's more than enough for us. I can understand having two to keep your kittens from being lonely but why do you want to own more than that (although it is better that they live with you than be eithanized, thank you btw)? Just curious.

My boss has taken in several abused animals. She has 5 dogs and 2 cats. They all live inside the home. I have never been to house and detected the too many pets smell. She takes really good care of them.

I have co-worker with 4 cats and 2 dogs. He stinks so I am sure they do and his house does as well.

In my house, there are 5 hermit crabs. They belong to my daughter. They are in a cage and require very little maintenance. That is the only reason I've allowed them. Even with those, there is a lot of poop to clean up in the sand. I don't understand why you would have more than one.

One is plenty. Two is too many. More than two is nuts in my opinion.

I have two cat's a dog and four hamsters. The cat own the basement and no don't cost more on food or litter I'm still spending the same amount every month. My dog is trained to go outside to go potty so no smelly house and the hamsters I only spend about 15 dollars every two months on them. The cat's and the dog all play together and the hamsters all play together.

Because I love them! My first two cats and my dog I adopted because I was looking to adopt and liked them personally. My third cat I adopted because he was going to be euthanized and I Iiked him too much to let that happen. Actually, I now have to be practical and keep myself from adopting more cats just because I fall in love with them (I work in an animal shelter, so I meet lots of dogs and cats). I know the limits of my resources and won't harm an animal by taking it when I can't care for it. But if I had more money and space, I would have many more!

No great mystery, a lot of people really love animals and want to share their lives and homes with them. You'd be amazed how easy it is to end up with more than two, especially if you're involved with shelter/animal rescue work. There are so many cats and dogs out there who need good homes, it's overwhelming.
A good way to help and be with animals, but not have too many "permanent" pets is to be a foster family for an animal rescue group.

I own 4 cats and a Shih-Tzu. When you have one cat you think "what's one more". I don't think that people are crazy for having more than one pet. But every one should know what they can handle. I am at my limit. I wouldn't adopt anymore. My Shih-Tzu and youngest cat need too much attention.

My stepdaughter came up with the greatest definition of what makes a crazy cat person. "Never have more cats than you have hands in the house. More cats than hands, you are a crazy cat person! " We have two and are looking to adopt a third kitten, six hands three cats, we are OK. She and her Mom, four hands and five cats, they admit they have crossed a line somewhere.

but if someone has the time, space and money to properly care for more than 2 cats I say go for it. what gets me is the ones who can't afford it and have too many. We have 2 cats and one is pretty sick and we have spent a lot of money on him, wouldn't trade him for the world. but can't afford more nor do we have the space right now for more than 2. but if we get a house and we can get some more "free" money I would love to get more.
