It all depends on what sort of depression it is. There is reactive where it has a cause and then there is endogenous where there is no cause at all. if your black dog has a cause then there might be some way to treat it by tackling the problem. If it is endogenous then medication might help, but I must say that in a small minority of cases the medication can make it a LOT worse. So bad in fact that you can murder someone and kill yourself. I have had that happen to me but my friends rallied round and got me into hospital. (The nurses don't give a f**k and ignore you but that is what I have come to expect from the so called "caring" professions) I wish you well in your attempt to beat the black dog, it is a lifetimes battle and can seem as if it is unbeatable and triumphant, but it will lift. Love, Tim.

Aint you the one who asked the self harm question??
Go and get counselling hun seriously see a G.P. tell him/her you feel down and get help, call the samaritans and talk to them.
you cant just stop depression and if you just sit around doing nothing about it then things spiral out of control until you end up hurting yourself and those you love and who love you!!
That 1st step into your docs is the hardest but once you start receiving the help you need and deserve the road to recovery and happiness is a fulfilling one.

I don't know that it can be stopped. Treated , yes ..most people can be treated with meds, counseling and other therapy options. I think it's not even funny when people who don't understand say it's all in your head ...well---duh---but I have to live in my head..so now what ??? See a dr. and make sure you tell them all of your symptoms, no matter how embarrassing or non-normal you think they may be so that you can get a proper diagnosis. Good Luck !

there is no cure
its just something you have to learn to deal with
I've had depression since I was 11 I'm 23 now and it comes and goes in waves but ultimately I keep it at bay

Through counselling, anti depressants, friends, family, work and my career, Uni and my boyfriend I learnt to say "I can beat this"

Sometimes things make it flair up but generally I can keep it dormant where it belongs and thats what you need to learn to do

find out where the problems started and one by one, one day at a time try to resolve them
