The Spirit is eternal; the flesh is not. The Spirit is permanent and cannot decay and this also applies to the "land" where the Spirit dwells. The material world is in a continual state of dying and is temporal.

1 corinthians 15:46-47
However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.

Our soul is our entire being and it was made physical. Genesis says that the union of the body and the breath made man into a living soul. The spirit is of God and it isn't our soul. It is the eternal spirit of God that helped make us into a living being and guides us in life. God can give us, as a soul, immortality but he can slo take it away. If we believe in God (i'm sure you know), he will give us that immortality Which will let us live eternally and be as spirits. Mortality is what limits us to the physical realm, but with immortality, we can do things that even angels can do without hurting ourselves, like flying in faster than light speeds. That's my speculation though.

My view is that the soul and the spirit are two different things. The soul is you, the individual. The spirit is your connection with the spiritual world. It's like your identification in cyberspace, but you aren't physically in the cyberspace. Of course, if you're dead, you can't access cyberspace. The same in the spiritual world.

First of all,you need to know that man is a Spirit,he has a soul and he lives in a body. The soul and the body are a part of his spirit. Talking about which fears death, the christain should not have any kind of fear in his life, because whenever God communicated with any of his prophets he always told them to "FEAR NOT". fear is a tool of the devil and if you are born again just remember that..." God has not given you a spirit of timidity but a spirit of Power,of love and of self Discipline".
(2Timothy 1:7)

Speaking for myself, niether. Death holds no fear for my spirit, and I will be more than glad to shed this old body full of hurt and pain for a new one.
