It's always rude to be treated as an object, and it doesn't even have to be a sex object. When I lived in the city in the US and this would happen to me, I was more frightened and embarrassed than offended. Now I live in China and the Chinese like to call out "hello" to me. At first I thought it was nice and rather quaint. Now, after 6 years of hearing "hello" over and over again, I'm insulted by it. They expect no response. Most of them just like to try to get a "long nose" to turn and look. Then they giggle hysterically. They are usually a group of young men from the countryside who have rarely seen a "whitey". And the way they react to my African husband is really insulting.
So, yes, I find it insulting and rude for people to act in a mob to make a spectacle of another person who they know has no recourse, and from whom they expect no real interaction.

You need to carry a whistle with you. Next time they do it, just stop in the middle of the road and blow the whistle for about thirty seconds. See if they can be found at the end of the session.

I think it a bit tacky, but I guess they don't know how to put there comments in words, so they do the rude thing, holler or whistling. heck, I don't holler at my Dog much less a person.

I can see if someone was offended. Trying looking at it this way, they are being immature, so impressed with your visage that they cannot vocalize the proper response. You have redered people silly by your sheer talents and gifts. Go ahead, be proud...just not too proud. Or as they say, take it in stride, you have the power to do so.

Do you?? LOL!!!
Seriously, it's nice to be noticed and appreciated, but when I am cat-called or something, it makes me feel like a street walker or something. I'd prefer to be approached or smiled at or something. Maybe I'm an oddball, but I don't care for being hollered at from a building or a moving car!

Well, it IS classless and more than a little tacky. I'm not going to argue that point with you.
BUT...at the same time, they obviously find you attractive. So, in their own crude way, they're complimenting you. Just smile & nod and keep on going, knowin you're a hottie! :)

Try to take a different route. Or else try to take it as a complement. If you were ugly, they would not whistle at you. Or if you really have the guts, yell , "Aw.. go f*ck yourself you worthless drunks." That might encourage them though.
I myself, would just ignore them as if they don't exist.

Insulting? No.
Rude? Yes.
And I'm not disqualified from answering just because I'm a guy... on a few occasions I had to deliver a pizza to a gay bar.

there is meaning to it that that. far from that. guys mean you are nice to hang around with when they do that. of course they want to have fun with you! THEY mean nothing better but if you give them the chance they will surely enjoy the opportuinty. i dont find it insulting or rude. i rather find it uncouth and take note of such guys and make sure i have nothing better doing with them
