If you live in a state that has Shelter INsurance...they have the best childrens policy. Its called the Junior Special ..they have many plans but the best one is the $15,000 intial face amount, it only $450 for a one time payment that insures your child till he/she is 26 years old, once you pay the $450 , the policy is paid up till they are 26!! It also gives them guaranteed future insurability. It beats the gerber policy badly...you have to keep paying on it! Check out Shelter Insurance

DO NOT TAKE AN ENDOWMENT POLICY,CHOOSE A PLAN OF UNIT LINK,FOR A LONG TERM,CASUE IN FUTURE ALL THE MATURITY AMT WILLB TAXED BY GOVT.BUT IN UNIT LINK U CAN WITHDRAW THE AMT BY SELLING THE UNITS,AFTER A LOCK IN PERIOD OF 5 YRS,BUT U WILL HAVE TO PAY SURRENDER CHARGES,BUT IF U WITHDRAW AFTER 7YRS IN A PLAN OF 15 YRS ,THEN U NEED NOT PAY SURENDER CHARGES.ITS BETTER TO WITHDRAW MONEY ACCORDING TO ONES NEEDS, RATHER THAN WAIT FOR MATURITY,AND PAY THE GOVT TOO.
