Not necessarily, genes contribute greatly when it comes to obesity for as scientifically proven, obese parents do end up having obese kids even if their kids were eating well because... well, it's in their genes.
If a parent was neglectful to leave their children to do whatever they want and just left them money to buy food to feed themselves, the children would most likely eat things that they see convenient and what other kids are eating which makes it the parents fault if they have not taught their children how to eat on a proper diet.
In fact, if the parents do not know how to properly eat themselves and have their children eat the same junk food and things that they do... it is totally the parents fault for not knowing how to raise healthy kids and being neglectful to the well-being of their own children and themselves.
If a child is well taught to know what foods to buy and what foods to eat, obesity will not necessarily happen to them. Take for example my cousin, he was brought up in a healthy environment and has tried many types of food and yes, even candy and junk food. However he has been conditioned and raised to know what types of foods to eat and actually goes to the fruits section and asking his mom/dad for fruits instead of chocolates. Also, he would occasionally buy the fruits to go as he knows they taste like candy but are so much more healthier. He is 4 years old by the way.

I am thin...my sister is not, that's the way it's always been. In a lot of families this is the dynamic now...how could it be my parent's fault that my sister is obese? How is it my parents doing that I am thin? Living in the same house we both ate the same dinner and the same food. I have a faster metabolism then she does. As a parent, when my children are older...I'll do exactly what my parents did...encourage play, buy the right food in my house and promote good body image...no matter what they look like. I think some parents take it far out of control. They end up causing more damage stressing the fact that we all need to be thin leading in unhealthy practices such as anorexia and bulimia. I'm not disagreeing some parents are the cause for a child's obesity but I also want people to know that it's not always the parents fault. Think about schools now days...soda machines?? Burgers and fries for lunch?? Oh, but the kids DO have a choice of salad...(what kid in their right mind would choose salad over cheese pizza?). I think our society blames parents for far too much now days...yes some can be to blame but just look at the American culture now...everything's about finding an easy way out...or blaming someone else. Good question though!

Yes~ To me obesity is the sign of a lazy parent, unless the child has health issues and is under the care of a doctor. I have two kids that I make sure eat healthy and stay away from the junk and sodas and they are also extremely active boys.

Well, to an EXTENT YES but, let's not deny the factor genetics play. That's like saying are parents to blame because their child is short or tall. The child will be pre dispositioned to certain degree of how quickly they burn calories and how they store fat. A person from a LARGER then average family CAN and should exercise and watch food intake this dose not MEAN they will ever have a run way body thou. A child very young very very overweight is probably being fed wrong and not getting enough exercise. So yes and then a Lil no is my answer. SOME people are very naturally skinny even with a poor diet and no exercise some are more prone to Carry weight even with a okay diet and being active.

If there is no medical condition involved, absolutely. Children don't buy the groceries or prepare the meals. Parents need to make healthy choices for their children, including a nutritious diet. They should not allow their children to overeat or load up on sugary snacks and empty calories that put on the pounds. They should make sure their children are involved in activities that provide exercise. When the children reach school age, they should make sure they are prepared to make healthy choices in the cafeteria and not have a lot of money to spend on junk food. Yes, it is the parent's responsibility to ensure their children are healthy and this means not obese.

unless if the child has a specific genetic disorder, it is definately the parents fault if their child is obese. I see a growing number of obese children in America and it is so sad. It is because the parents are not feeding them healthy food, but instead filling them up on easy fast food meals, and they do not require them active play, the children sit at home playing video games and watching TV rather than actively playing outside.

Who else could be to blame besides genetics? (which are still the parent's fault, but I'd hesitate to put that on them). If the child does not have some sort of disease causing obesity, then it is purely the parents who teach them their eating habits and fail to properly feed their kids who are to blame.

Parents contribute to a child's well being by purchasing healthy or non healthy food. We all, however, are handed a set of genetics that determines our body styles. So, no, parents are not solely to blame for a child's obesity.

Yes and No. Yes if your kid is sitting around in the house watching tv and playing video games and not getting out and about. But no if it is due to medical issues. My daughter who is now 10. When she was around 7 she started really packing on the pounds. She is autistic and like the way hard foods feal in her mouth so we had the sensory of it. But she also has trouble with her thyroid. If we would not of gotten they thyroid and the sensory issues under control. They we would be to blame but they thyroid was a hidden thing that most people would not think of.

If there isnt a medical condition to attribute it to then yes I do feel the parents are to blame. Parents feed the children or allow the children to eat what they do.
