Think about Joseph when he was in prison, and he was denied association with other worshipers of God. What could he do? He could pray, and speak to some persons, and keep his integrity. He could ask for God's guidance and help; Genesis 39:20. You also have a very large, little book to read.
There are allot of on line Christian groups, and chat rooms, to witness in carefully.
Notice Jesus said 'For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.' Luke 10:10. This also refers to people who have been stumbled or mistreated by denominational churches.
.Luke 12:45 But if ever that slave should say in his heart, 'My master delays coming,' and should start to beat the menservants and the maidservants,..the master (Jesus) of that slave will come on a day that he is not expecting him and in an hour that he does not know, and he will punish him with the greatest severity and assign him a part with the unfaithful ones.
Notice the churches in Revelation 2 and 3. They have many problems. If you associate with any, just make sure to speak the truth, even if they do not. Be zealous for God. Revelation 2:23b Jesus says;.."I will give you individually according to your deeds."....best wishes..Tina

Denise, you are saved and Born Again separately from going to church; as the old saying goes, "sitting in church makes you a Christian about as much as sitting in a garage makes you a car!"
First, pledge your life to Jesus Christ; make Him the Master of your life and repent (permanently turn away from) your sins. You are saved by FAITH, not by WORKS, such as going to church.
Then, seek out a non-denominational church in your area, where you feel "spiritually fed." This means you walk away from the experience feeling close to God and knowing you learned something.
Finally, it may be that you did not gain anything from these other churches because you were not yet saved. Scripture tells us again and again that only a Born Again Christian can fully know and understand the things of God. Going to church without being saved is like trying to read a book in a language you don't speak. So, after you're saved, consider visiting these churches again after you've read the Gospels and 1 Corinthians (which I call Christianity 101). I'm sure you'll be in a much better place spiritually to decide where you'll stay. Then, be baptised!
May God bless and keep you.

What nonsense I'm reading out of all of the responses.
I too feel the same way that you do so I suggest you just have a one on one relationship with God and don't worry about what other people say or try to tell you.
What I do, is I go to church only for the social gathering and the occasional debate about politics and religion in general but what matters is what you feel is right.
You don't have to belong to one faith, what I do is take the good from each religion or faith group and knock out the bad and move on.
You won't die unsaved if you just have a one-on-one relationship because in the end, that's all that matters. We die alone not as a group.

First, you must acknowledge your sin which has separated you from God. Second, believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God came to die for your sins and reconcile man back to God. Third, you must confess your sins and ask God to forgive through the work of Jesus on your behalf. Put your trust in the finished work of Jesus. Here are some scriptures to read. John 3:16, Romans 3:10, 23; Romans 6:23, 5: 1-10, and Romans 10:9,10; Acts 16:31. Don't put this off too long, and I'll pray for you.

First you must realize that you are a sinner which is only realized when you find out what is right and what is wrong (the ten commandments Exodus 19.) Only when you find out that you're a sinner ,which all have sinned romans 3:23, do you realize that you need a payment for that sin which is either death or the christ (messiah) which is Yeshua (Jesus) to pay for your penalty and give you salvation (or everlasting life). Make no mistake of it though, salvation does not come in this lifetime only the hope of it. If you had salvation right now then why would you need faith. Faith is generated by the hope of the salvation to come and therefore we show our faith in this salvation by understanding the commandments, repenting from the ones we are currently breaking, and then come into the fullness of his glory by following them (not that following them saves you but faith is an action word which denotes that you are doing something to show him that you love him and are able to overcome yourself in this world). I will now direct you to a website that has more truth than you will find in most any church it will help you and guide you to answers of the many questions that i'm sure you still have. avoiceinthewilderness.org

Keep looking, I'm sure the church for you is out there. You might try looking online and watching churches there in the meantime. My favorite churches are more charismatic, here are some of the ones I watch online:
http://www.kt.org/?p=media_services (Kensington Temple, London)
http://www.calvarygs.org/radio/somebodylovesyou_radio_online/archived_programs.html (Calvary Chapel, Southern CA)
http://www.watchofthelord.com/video/video-archive.asp (All nations church, North Carolina)
http://www.tscnyc.org/sermons.php (Times Square Church, NYC (David Wilkerson's Church))
http://www.newcreation.org.sg/resources/dailydevotion/dailydevo.asp (New Creations Church, Singapore)
http://www.churchofgladtidings.com/thisweek/teachings.cfm (Church of Glad Tidings, Yuba City, CA)
http://www.jubilee.org/jubileetv.html (Jubilee Christian Center, San Jose, CA).
I don't think this is a good substitute for being actively involved with other christians, but maybe it will help while you're looking for a good church.

Well, I believe everyone has the right to get answers for herself or himself. It may be that God has a very specific place for you. Everyone needs to go where their blessings are. As a Mormon I would love to invite you to come visit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but again, it is up to you to pray about what to do. Sometimes when people pass through a period of feeling they don't belong to any particular church, they are getting ready for something bigger. Another reason could be that future family members are also going through a time of questioning where they need to be going next, too. The best thing to do is keep studying scriptures and praying, and learn to be still and listen to answers. Sometimes getting out and offering service somewhere will help direct you in the right direction as well.

The first thing you need to realize is that God wants a realtionship with you...not a religion with you. Find a church in your area that teaches this. Make sure it also teaches that the Bible is Gods word. Get involved..don't just go visit.
I'd recommend Calvary Chapel. It's a non-denominational church that teaches the Bible.

Just one question back at you:
Why do you NEED God in your life?
Because you've been told you must have him in your life in order to be a "good and moral" person. Perhaps the reason none of them are working for you is that deep down, you realize it's all just a bunch of hooey.
I, too, went to many churches and was happy for a short time before becoming unhappy again. When I finally admitted to myself that *I* control my destiny, not some unseen and unverified deity, I was finally happy... REALLY happy. It was the happiest moment of my life (next to my son's birth).
There is no saving to be done. There is only living a moral life, helping your fellow man along this path we call life. Being good to one another and true to ourselves. When we die, we just... die. There's no mystery to it.
Ponder that for awhile. You might find the fog clear and realize that it's all up to you, not any god(s).
