I am just curious why athiests deny even the possibility of the spiritual yet are willing to consider the possiblity of there being 10 or 11 dimensions. Isn't that a bit hypocritical?

I personally find it amusing that there are folks who would dismiss belief in a Higher Power because it can't be 'proven' yet their own theories on the universe rival some of the most elaborate myths from throughout history.

"So why bother? Physicists aren't just spinning out these tales of 11 dimensions for the amusement of science-fiction writers. Rather, unseen dimensions seem to offer the best hope for solving the kinds of problems that have frustrated theorists since Albert Einstein's day."

IMHO the parallel here is that ancient cultures created god myths to solve the kinds of problems that had frustrated their people in explaining the world around them.

"Randall said another avenue could have to do with gravity waves — a phenomenon that is predicted by Einstein's general relativity theory but has not yet been detected."

Hmmm... something that is believed to exist, but as yet has no proof or evidence. Go figure.

Not really. The possibility of additional physical dimensions is not the same kind of idea as the possibility of a *non*-physical realm.

When I entertain the possibility of other dimensions, life begins to make sense.

no because the hypothesis that these dimensions exist ARE A PRODUCT OF MATHEMATICAL (AKA LOGICAL) THOUGHT!

i'm not saying there ARE 10 dimensions, but i'd be more inclined to believe there was over the fact that there is a supernatural god.
